What Os do you ladies and gentlemen find to be the best for ripping/encoding?

I thought this would be interesting. I expect to find that most people use windows 2k but you could always prove me wrong:D . one of the things I would like to look into, or if any of you could tell me that would be great. Is does the RV9 codec support linux? So far I have been told that people generally don't use linux and Mac because the divx codecs don't really support them. However if the RV9 codec did I would like to see how much faster i would rip in linxu using it!

I don't believe there's any difference between Win2000 and WinXP for encoding purpose. Unfortunately I could select a single option only, so I voted for XP, which I use more often for encoding (not because it's better, but because it runs on a faster machine).

I'm not using XP at all, so I can't say - but I guess it's the same for encoding than Win2k. Win98SE has also been ok for me for a long time. I switched to Win2k not because of encoding but because of the ntfs file system and better stability, better memory usage, better multi-threading and so on. Encoding hasn't changed for me ... it has been working great in 98Se and it still does in Win2k.

i'm using XP now but i've been using win2k for a long time... in my opinion there's absolutely no diverence except that win2k seems to handle large files better... i got this impression although the win2k computer was a PII 400 and the XP machine is a PIV 2.0 GHz

anybosy else experiencing the same?

One of the things that I have noticed is that(and this could all just be speculation)WinXP seems to not be as stable as 2k is for encoding.. That is just my own thoughts. However now that I found that the RV9 codec supports Linux I am eager to see how well it works!
