download xvid video freezing

I recently downloaded an xvid feature. Occasionally, the video freezes for a few seconds but the audio continues. This freezing repeats itself a few times accros the movie. I'm playing the file from cd on a p3 533mhz machine.

I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue :) thanks

Try copying the movie to your hard drive first, and then play it.

I'll try that. But even in high action scenes the movie seems to play fine.

Open the CPU loader to see if you reach 100% while reading the Xvid file from your Harddisk.
If so, you can decrease the size of your screen (instead of 1024x768, you can go to 800x600 or 640x480. It shall reduce your CPU load. If not, you can try to overclock your video card (on my TNT, going to 100 MHz to 120 Mhz, improves of few pourcent).
