Pulp Fiction (PAL) Ripping Options ????

Have somebody ripped Pulp Fiction (PAL) ?? I'm going to rip this movie on 2 CD's (700 MB) with Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) !

Which Options must I take to rip this movie in best quality ?
It should be nearly DVD Quality !

Lenght: 2h 27min 58sec
Format: 16:9

The AC3 File size is 406 MB !

Hi-

I did that one recently-NTSC, though. I made 2 versions, one at 704x304 and MP3 audio, and one at 640x272 with the AC3 Audio. Both with LanczosResize. I was pretty pleased with the results. It's pretty compressible for being such a long movie-no problems-no special advice-Great Movie-one of my favorites-have fun.

What's LanczosResize ??? How can I use this ??? Normally I use Gordian Knot !

LanczosResize is a new, extra-sharp resizing filter. Sharper, I think, than Sharp Bicubic, and somewhat slower. There's been a lot of discussion about it in Doom9's AviSynth forum. Just search on "lanczosresize" for lots of information about it.

It is not an option with Gknot 0.26.1, but it can be easily added to it.

It first was released as a plug-in filter. It is now available as a built-in filter in AviSynth 2.06 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/AviSynth_206.exe), I believe you may install this safely on top of Gknot.

To use, you must manually edit the .avs script, replacing the bicubic resize command with "lanczosresize(xxx,yyy)" -- the easiest way to do this is to press the "Edit" button on the "Save&Encode" window in Gknot. My biggest difficulty is spelling it, not using it.

I've ripped the Movie now an I think the Quality is fine ! But there's a problem in some scenes there is a vertical moving black line !!!! What did I wrong ???

Hi-

Please open the completed movie in Nandub and scroll to one of the places where the black line is when you play the movie. Is it there? If not, then it's the fault of the player or decoder. If it is, then open TempDVDpulp_fiction.avs in Nandub and check if the black line is there. If it's still there, then please post the .avs (but without the lines that begin with "#"). If it's not, then something went wrong during the encoding (would Q-Pel or GMC do that? Did you use either of them?).

That's a real pretty log file you have there.:)

LanczosResize doesn't have any arguments, at least not the type that you seem to be using (it has optional crop arguments though).
Change lanczosresize(640,288,0,0.75) to lanczosresize(640,288)
.
Please check your movie's Aspect Ratio again as well, because 640x288 doesn't seem correct. It should probably be 640x272 instead, but maybe you've just got a weird movie on your hands.

Also, what filter is the last line, I only see parameters?

Ps. Everyone should post their logs in [php], it looks so much flashier :)

Should I only click on auto croop ??? when I did this I saw even a black border so I change the Pixel till I don't saw any black border ! The Result was the Resolution 640x288 !!!

What you showed us is just a parameter, without a command.

GKnot gives those particular parameters to the filter SpatialSoftenMMX. So you either forgot to copy the command name, or you've got a list of parameters in your avs without a corresponding filter.

If it's the last case, just delete the line and check if your avs still has the same problem when viewed in VDub.

Hi-

More advice. Your crops should be changed so all of the numbers are even numbers. It might not be the cause of the black lines (the other suggestions might have corrected it), but it can't hurt. So, perhaps something like:

crop(6,558,710,462),

or whatever it takes to get rid of the black bars and maintain AR. Don't rely on Auto-Crop to do the job. And before encoding, it's always good to play the .avs in the Preview or open it in VDub and scroll around to see if everything is OK. It might have saved you 12 hours if you had spotted the mistakes before encoding. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

This is an Interlaced DVD, put this string in your .avs script.

Decomb is the the best deinterlacing filter.

I also got the PAL R2 DVD last week and I'm really disappointed about the quality because of this moving black line.

So my question is which release don't have this error?

I ended up sharpening the NTSC version up alittle even with Lanczos.
I'm a sharpening and Lanczos whore though..:devil:

Just add...
Sharpen(X.XX)

in the avs script, X.XX being a float(decimal) number between 0-1.00

The movie I think is purposely done low-tech and "gritty" so don't expect too much!
