View Full Version : More on massive color corrupted frames when capturing

More on this problem (see the earlier thread).
Tried different cards (bt878 and nvidia GF2/MX400 deluxe), tried
different codecs, tried different programs.
No matter WHAT combination of ANY of the above I try, I get single frame errors scattered ALL through the file of massive color corruption.
see attached .jpg for an example.
I really, really need some suggestions on this issue. It has been ruining captures for several weeks now and is getting reall, really tiresome to scan through and manually delete EACH and EVERY frame involved.
Someone please step forward with an idea as I'm utterly, totally, and completely baffled.
Not to mention that if I can't find a fix, I'm for all intents and purposes gonna have to toss anything I capture from now on out the window. I just don't have time to deal with all these crapped out frames anymore.
thankx ...

MicroSoft has acknowledged issues with some capture scenarios under XP + SP1. I do not know if yours is one of them. It is worth looking into.
BTW, you'll make the moderators very unhappy if you start new threads on the same topic just to get a bump.

Would you by chance have any links to any of these XP support issues?
I tried a quick search on microsoft's support site, turned up some issues with matrox cards and via 686b chipsets regarding power saving situations, but nothing that would cause the gross data errors I'm seeing.
thankx

intersting stuff:did you read recent threads on the unusual
lines that occur when capturing on systems with VIA chipsets
(connected to the PCI data transfer etc.)?
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34456
seems like not complete picture gets to your systems memory
so in turn it cannot be written correctly to disk....
i guess you have to check OS/drivers issues first & then check if
hardware is ok....
( if you have two capture devices i'll presume one of them is OK, and then you're left with the data transfer stuff.... )
cheers

I read about it on the rec.video.desktop Usenet newsgroup. Try a google seach there.

Actually, that's the puzzling part.
This has happened with BOTH the nvidia capture *and* bt878 capture.
And to multiple codecs ... and from different capture programs.
So a data transfer issue does seem likely.
What is elusive is the solution.

I can't seem to find anything in rec.video.desktop concering XP and capture.
I found a TON of articles concerning people w/trouble capturing to DV or with dropped frames, but NOTHING on my kind of problem.
Can you by chance post a link to the article in question?
thanks

i too took a look at r.v.desktop....
but didn't saw anything that would concern you
(currently i have posts from 12.9. for that group....)
there's some stuff on XP&capturing, but not quite simillar to your problems
i'll look a bit more and report if i find anything interesting
(but i doubt it:i looked for any occurences of "xp" in subjects and
found nothing or next to nothing...)

Update :
Switched capturing to a new KT333 based board (old board was an a7v133, which is KT133A based) and it runs like a champ, no colorflashes or corrupted frames at all.
