Sounds like you have a Dolby Digital soundtrack interleaved with the video.

Use Nandub (a VirtualDub varient that supports many sound formats, including DD -- though it only supports DivX3 video) to extract the audio. Open the .avi, File...Save WAV, and save sound file, using .ac3 as your file type.

If you need to create a video-only .avi from your source, you can use Nandub. Just set Video....Direct Stream Copy and Audio....No Audio, and then File...Save as AVI.

You'll find a ton of .ac3 software tools and guides for transcoding to other formats on Doom9's website, start with this link to Audio Related guides (http://www.doom9.org/audio-guides.htm).

Hi-

First, I suggest getting GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot11.zip). Then point it to the movie, and it will tell you what the audio really is. Then, if you followed jggimi's advice, after you Save WAV, and it really is an AC3 track, rename the extension to .ac3 (from audio.wav to audio.ac3. Then, assuming you have the correct filters installed, it should play smoothly. If you need the filters, Doom9 has them.

A - i cant find anywhere 2 output 2 ac3

As jggimi said, it's in File-Save WAV. Then rename the extension.

B - wen i do save as wav the audio is all choppy

If it's choppy after being renamed, get the filters.
