Im trying to get this to fit on a dvdr using the DVD-9 to DVD-5 "full copy" instructions written by Trilight.
Ive done a few before without any problems at all.
But this one is giviing me a head ache. I `ve re-encoded it with cce got it all down to the right size etc. But when I load it all into gear DVD Pro an error pops up saying
" Specified name not present in current directory "
then after that another error message saying
"Load error on file VTS_02_0.VOB The file VTS_02_0.IFO Should be loaded first."

Anyone have any idea why this error is appearing?

Thanx

I'm afraid I've not used "gear" but it sounds as if it is referring to the file structure being incorrect. I'm surprised it does not correct this on it's own if it at least detects that it is incorrect to begin with. The DVD standard dictates that the IFO file should come first with the corresponding VOB files following. This is why if the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file is not the first on the disc, many (if not ALL) standalone DVD players will not play the disc.

Is there any writing software that would actually put this right ?

Ive tried burning it with NERO 5580 and Primo Prassi and they both produce discs that do the same thing ie you pop it in your player and it just stays with a blank screen and making a weird clunking noise as if it cant find what its looking for. The dvd player has on its display "title 2".
Eventually the player just ejects the disc. The funny thing is if you can manage to press play just before the disc ejects then it works fine ie loads up the main menu, all the chapter selection works and every thing.

You've just proven to yourself then that it is not the burning software. Sounds like the original IFO's are altered such that the standalone player does not know where it is supposed to start until you press the play button. A couple of things you can check are the "First Play" setting and also making sure you ran "Get VTS sectors". Otherwise, you might want to check the type of disc your using. More than likely, your IFO's are screwed up somehow though.

Brilliant :) Think I have it sussed.

I opened up the video _ts.ifo in ifoedeit. and under first play bit , right at the bottom it had " command jump to title 2" Changed the title 2 to the title with the main menu ( title 16 ) on it and it seems to have sorted it. Allthough I had to remember back to school days to work out what 16 was in hex :D ( 10 of course )

Thanx again

I've written more than one. I can only assume Bagger is referring to the recent one...

Ah ok! A bit old but still useful. :) There are some subtle changes that need to be made but nothing that would keep you from completing your project. Just a few inaccuracies here and there.

I am still trying to figure out decoding the IFO's, I have read some of the guides, can you explain what method you used to figure out which "title" had the main menu? I am trying to solve the same problem that you had, and several of my IFO's on disks that haven't worked on my standaldones have pointed towards "JumpSS PGC 02" on the first play.

I was hoping I could figure out how to manually point it towards the main menu, so I have to be able to determine which title is the main menu....

Can you offer a troubled soul some assistance?
