View Full Version : What is the best player for .OGM?

Hi,
I encoded a movie with XviD and then I muxed .ogg audio track in it with OggMux. Everything looked good so far, but when I started playback with BSPlayer, the result was horrible: the audio and video were disjointed. Then I tried to play my .ogm with Zoom Player and it worked just great!
But, Zoom Player has one problem: it can't show the subtitles like BSPlayer can.
So what program do you use to play your .ogm's?

add the subtitle to the ogm file
use: ogmuxer -o moviewithsub.ogm movienosub.ogm moviesubs.srt
and then watch it with the subtitle filter found @ tobias.everwicked.com (http://tobias.everwicked.com)
ZoomPlayer still best for ogm files

Yeah, compact, versatile and full featured (TV/DVD!)
my favourite flawless one!
although IMO that brownish default skin really sux... :D and doesn't pay this excellent media player.
@Blight, please replace the default skin! (for ex. "Wurm Green" would be fantastic ;))

Hey guys!
Now I found a perfect player for .OGMs. It's a player called Media Player Classic and it's worth of trying. With that you can play almost every file correctly (at least what I've tried) and it can display subtitles (of course you can mux your subtitles within .OGM with OggMux, but anyway).
You can find it here http://vobsub.edensrising.com/mpc.php.

siku: I've tried MPC and I liked it but it doesn't take advantage of the chapter support that I find so convienient in zoomplayer. Specifically using shift-[ and shift-] and seeing OSD of the chapter names... very useful.

Yeah, Emp3r0r, I noticed too few bugs in MPC: the video was upside down few times and picture contained black squares when I loaded subtitles to my movie. So, maybe I stick on Zoom Player for .OGM and on BSPlayer for others. :)

My fav. Player is still BSPlayer,
for .ogm and .avi.
PS. BSPlayer=BeStPlayer ;)

ookzDVD, does your version of BSPlayer plays .ogm correctly?
Mine doesn't... And it should be the latest version.

BSPlayer can't handle HTML tags, and hacks the ogg subtitle filter, so it'is not the best for playback ogm with subs. Furthermore, its developpement is stopped for the moment. But I still stick to it when I have to playback avi with / without external subs.
Media Player Classic is a very good and light player, with also has the smaller filesize. But with some ogm, it failed inexplicablely to render graph.
At the moment, I never have any problems with Zoom Player and ogm. So I would say it's the best, but I'm still waiting PowerDivX...

@Siku,
My BSplayer is 0.85 build 488.
@Manao,
BSplayer use the "internal" subtitle reader which works for me
without problem even for .srt which muxed to the .OGM

Yes, but if you have HTML tags it will display something like <i>blablabla</i> au lieu de blablabla . If you don't have HTML tags, of course, the antialiased subs of BSPlayer and the possibility to place them everywhere are a must.

When you use VobSub, you can use your subtitles with every player.
My favorite player is Zoom Player. Blight is a great programmer and totally dedicated to his project. There is a new Version out every few weeks.
You have hundreds of options, that you can change, the best remote control support, full direct show support (BSPlayer has its own filters, that's why it is so buggy for me and for others) and the great skin "Minimalisk". It is great for OMGs, XCDs, VCDs, AVIs, SVCDs and DVDs, all in one player. And I love the new filenavigator (press Enter or shift+f).
Why should I use BSPlayer then, when it quits on me quite often?

Hey guys, I don't want to interfere but I'd just like to say : wait for The Core Media Player (i.e. PowerDivX4) which will be (and already IS) the official OggMedia player... and you will forget all other players ;)

@inoteb,
PowerDivX ?? I don't think so... :(
It's not as light as BSplayer ;)
Trust me, I know what I'm doing ;)
At least my fav. player is still 5% over yours as listed on the corecodec.com pool ;)

Well, a pool with a total of 22 votes (7 for old PowerDivX agains 8 for BSPlayer) can't be considered as a reference, don't you think ? ;)
And trust me : 3 months ago I was still using BSPlayer along with ZoomPlayer and TCMP, according to the media I wanted to play. But now I'm really converted to TCMP and it's the only player installed on my PC (well, OK, I'm forced to have RealPlayer too!).
I also know what I'm doing :D

I have tried beta(can't remeber what) version of Coredcodec player and in my opinion it wasn't worth of all the hype. Had a feeling it was nothing special. Anyway respect a lot your work Blacksun and others. We'll just have to wait first offical version. It's just hard to believe any player can be better than Zoom Player.

I understand that (I loved ZoomPlayer too... except its default shit-skin!), but wait a little and you'll see ;) Recent TCMP alphas are plenty of "special" features.

Well, when is the official release date of the PowerDivX?
And if PowerDivX is THAT good what you say it is, maybe I'll try it too. :)

No official date for the moment... Only BlackSun knows (and even then... :D ). But it should be soon (2 or 3 alphas more before first public beta). Go to http://www.corecodec.com from time to time.

TCMP4 will indoubtedly be THAT good. And in fact, it's already THAT good :D :D :D
Trust me, I would never have "abandoned" excellent ZoomPlayer for a crap media player ;) TCMP really rocks !

I can't think of any features I'm missing with Zoom Player. SO it's hard to imagine something better. And my wife is good looking, so I don't need a sexy Playerskin. Well, the Minimalisk skin is sort of sexy (naked)...

stop hyping TCMP please, I have already too much people asking for a release date and I even don't know one. We're not in a hurry, instead we're trying to get some very interestings features...

I'm looking for a OGm-player that has a wonderful feature I had in microDVD-player (which unfortunately doesn't work with OGm 100%):
Good old microDVD-player was able to continue the time-count when jumping from one CD to the next (assuming that these CDs are the 2 parts of a movie), moreover chapter-numbers were continued over both discs & jumping from CD1 to a chapters situated on CD2 resulted in a player-message "please insert CD2", disc 1 was ejected automatically.
Anyone capable of such a player?? (which can be used NOW and not in 100 years like TCMP:mad: )
Thanks
Raist
P.S: microDVD-player was even more powerful on this issue, it could even load the CD2 in a second CD-drive (burner for example), so you don't have to switch CD in the middle of the movie.
I guess best thing would be to reverse-engineer microDVD-player to integrate OGM-support! (Locutus, mDVDPlayer-author is gone, no open-source)
