I have several vob files that are ac3 (dd5.1) encoded and I want to extract the video and ac3 streams to put them on a demo dvd (they are the THX demos). I only have the vob's, no ifo's or bup's etc.
What method should I use?

Use DVD2AVI (click demux all tracks in the audio menu) and save the project. This will extract all AC3 tracks available in your VOB.

all i can say is read his post again and make sure you are doing everything it says.
Also, for what purpose are you extracting the ac3? if you plan on encoding it again (to mp3 for example), you could use the vobinput plugin of BeSweet and go directly from vob to mp3(for example).
(also, caps aren't necessary, your post will be read, don't worry)
