Hi group,
I purchased the USB2 Snazzi DVD unit after seeing a review of it in Computer Video magazine UK. Sadly I have got a problem that even the staff at Snazzi seem to be stuck about. I contacted them and they were really kind and tried lots of ideas to fix my problem, so I thank them for the effort, but sadly my problem still persists.
After recording over about 2 or 3 mins of DVD footage on the USB2 unit it starts to stutter and freeze, and then after about 5 mins the picture freezes for AGES and then stops totally. The hard drive goes crazy processing the data. Now, I have 3x the specs needed to use the device so I am confused why I am having such a problem. Here is my hardware setup....
Windows XP Pro,
512mb Ram,
Athlon XP 1800,
60gb 7200rpm ATA133 DMA enabled HDD,
USB2,
As you can see, I shouldn't have any problems running a hardware encoding capture device, even a software one would work better. I have tried installing 3 different versions of their capture software, but to no help. Their technican suggested I install Direct X8, but I couldn't find one for Windows XP, I know it comes with it installed but she suggested I re-install it. Anyway, I couldn't find it so I tried Windows 2000 Direct X and it made no difference at all.
I have defragged my hard drive and it has 40gb free and it is on its own cable and not joined to any other drive, I also use NTFS. The USB2 device is one that came with the motherboard, so that should be just as good, if not better then a PCI card USB2. my motherboard is a new Gigabyte ATA133 one, so more then good enough.
Does anyone have any ideas ? I think you guys are my last chance. I have thought about reinstalling the whole operating system, but that is such a big task and annoying, especially as I have no idea if it will solve the problem.
