View Full Version : Playing incomplete download

I was downloading this movie on Kazaa, and I wanted to preview it, but couldn't because it's AVI formatted. I can only play back mpeg, asf, and wmv using the Windows Media Player when incomplete (i'm guessing this is normal). However, sometimes when I take the file with the .dat extension and open it with VirtualDub it will "reconstruct the missing index block" and play some of the file, unfortunately it doesn't always work, and I really don't even want to try that method since the file is so large (about 726,000kb). Is there anyway else I can play the incomplete file portion?

I'm afraid rebuilding the index is the only way...
There's a tool named "DivFix" for that (see Doom9 software section).
"This program was created to be able to watch partially downloaded DivX (AVI) movies.
It can rebuild or strip the index part of the movie, which is at the end of the file.
There are also a basic error detection, which can detect serious errors in the audio/video
stream".
