View Full Version : Antialiased subtitles (.ogm)

I'm new to this, so I'm sorry if this question is in the wrong place.

I've been experimenting with making movies in the Ogg wrapper, using Ogg Vorbis (Ogg Machine and BeSweet) for audio (two language streams) and Subrip (.srt) for subtitles, and then using Oggmux to package the whole thing together. That all works just fine. I'm using Zoom Player 2.9 to play them back, so I have easy access to the different audio tracks, and turning subtitles on and off.

My question is, how can I change the font of the subtitles?

Right now they are kind of blocky. I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows (XP), and all of my codecs etc. Before I did all this, I had nice antialiased subtitles. Now they are gone!

I hope I've given you enough information. I think the problem is that I didn't install the same subtitle filter as I had before, but I really can't remember what it was.

Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it!

Well, did you reinstall Tobias' latest SubTitDS filters ?

BTW, v.1300 supports some HTML tags on SRT file (you can set the font with size and color...)

Apart from that, I don't know if it's possible to change the subs font in ZoomPlayer. What I know is that it will be possible with The Core Media Player 4.

I installed the latest SubTitDS filters, and it helped a little...

I now get nicer antialiased subs, but the HTML tags don't work - I can see the tags, and the text doesn't change (i.e. italicize).

If I tell Zoom Player to unregister DirectVobSub, the HTML tags work but I go back to the blocky font. Maybe its a Zoom Player thing?

Is there any way to configure SubTitDS? BTW, when I install the latest SubTitDS I get an error. I didn't get it when I installed the previous version.

Thanks for your help!

no it's a problem with Direct Vobsub and the auto loading. I had to turn it off if I wanted to watch my OGM's that had subtitles in it. I don't think that the SubDS filter has any Anti aliasing yet. Try posting in the subtitle forum.

Sorry, the HTML formatting is a problem with Direct VobSub? Is that what you meant?

Yeah, I think I'll ask on the subtitle forum if the SubTitDS filter offers antialiasing. I don't think so - I found out how to change filter settings within Zoom Player, and there does not appear to be any way to change font or styles.

Thanks again!

I got the answer on the Subtitles board. The latest version of VobSub (2.18) allows styled antialiased subtitles in my .ogm files.

If you are interested, the Subtitles board link is:
