I have a 2 DVD Disc Set. Want to use the Scenarist-CCE method to assemble back the DVDs individually retaining the original menus.

Then I would like to combine the 2 DVDs into one and I know I can use the mpucoder/kewlhair instructions. The question I have is that each individual DVD has a menu, and each disc menu has a button that points to information on the other disc, which brings up a screen that points to brief summary on the other disc.
I would like to replace this menu button to point to actual menu of the other disc.

eg:
DISC1-
VIDEO_TS
VTS_01_0 Has menu button to give info on DISC2
VTS_02_x
..

DISC2-
VIDEO_TS
VTS_01_0 Has menu button to give info on DISC1
VTS_02_x
.....

Combination:-
VIDEO_TS ??Which one DISC1 or DISC2 and where would other VIDEO_TS go?
VTS_01_0 Modified button to point to VTS_08_0 menu
VTS_02_x
......
VTS_08_0 Modified button to point to VTS_01_0 menu
VTS_09_x

Is this doable?

Thanks
Shree

I use Maestro so this may be a little different for you but it seems like this should be pretty straight forward.

I wouldn't try to use the original menus at all. Use the frame capture in your DVD player to get a bitmap of each of the menus.

Use dvd2avi/VFAPI & CCE to transcode your VOBs into AC3/M2V so both sets will fit on 1 DVD, extract the chapters for each of them with Chapter Xtractor then reauthor the whole thing. Like I said I'm not familiar with Senarist but Maestro makes it very easy to setup your menus from the captured bitmaps and you can set every button to do what you want.

The menus are a little time consuming but it should work just fine.

Per your suggestion, I used DVDMaestro to reauthor the menus. Yes, it was time consuming. I had a few compile warnings, like no DVD First play set, and I fixed that.

The only problem that remains, is that the menus it created were not Video Title specific, so when I hit the Menu button on the remote of the dvd player it does not take you anywhere. The only way to get the menu is to click on Root Menu on the remote.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

in the connections window (where you set first play) there is a 'menu key' action for each chapter, and also a 'title menu'.

it varies from remote to remote, but top menu usually refers to title menu, altho 'root menu' button (and just plain 'menu' button) ive seen refering to title menu, or 'menu key'.

and on the Sonken player at work, 'menu' seems to goto the action defined for 'menu key' for each chapter, and the 'root menu' seems to do 'first play'

the software players (and Maestro's own Realtime Preview) have proper button assignments tho.
