Monsters, Inc. 2 CD Rip !!!!

Hi,

I want to rip Monsters, Inc. Pal German on 2 CD's with Dolby Digital (AC3) !

The Movie:

Resolution: 4:3 [1:1,33]
Lenght: 88 min
Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 384 kbs


What's the beste solution to Rip this on 2 CD's ! I need a very good quality, because i want to watch it with my beamer !

Well, the best would be to encode in full resolution, say 704x528 (crop on the right and the left to become 704 and then do bilinear resizing down from 704x576 to 704x528), with 1-pass quality based 100%, without any pro functions and absolutely no filtering.

I think even so, the movie will take place on 2 CDs with AC3 sound without any problems! (it's a digital movie, so it should be very good compressible)

Load the AVS file directly in VirtualDub.
Set Video on Fast Recompress & Audio on no Audio.
Under Video -> Compression you can then choose the DivX codec and setup all things.
The only thing you have to do now is going to File -> Save AVI as and wait .. and wait .. and wait until it gets ready.

Then you can multiplex the AC3 file with your AVI in NanDub.
Choose 96ms for Interleaving & Preload.

You can then cut the file in 2 in NanDub.

Sorry, but It isn't.
I've made a 1CD at 576x304 and a 15% test with 3.11 give me a compressibility of 48% with neutral bicubic and 625Mb for video. The first pass is 1.3GBytes.

I've done the movie with XviD and the quality is really good, but I doubt seriously someone could fit the movie in 2CD with ac3 soundtrack, without resizing and using 1pass 100% quality (100% quality at 576x304 with bilinear will give you 1.3GB, where you fit the ac3 sound?).

Maybe you could raise the resolution, and the quality will be amazing, in a 2CD rip, but.... no more I think.

My recomendation is to use a sharp bicubic, maybe lanczos??? and resize to 640x... with no more filters and no preprocessing nor postprocessing. If this is no good enough I doubt you could find a method that could give you noticeable better results.

For this movie, I've done c3d(0,4,4,4,4,2.6,0),640x, MPEG-6 w/ts(1,5,0), lanczos, XviD 2CD AC3 and on a scale of 1-10 for reproducing the DVD it is a 8.(kinda blurry, though) (w/CG it appears the extra filtering is OK).

I may be overly critical, but with a 2+CD XviD rip I feel that you should be able to reproduce the DVD fully. I have not done a lot of CG encodes, so I may be totally off, though. :)
I normally do approx 15+ test chapter encodes w/different settings before archiving (always XviD)..and this has been the best so far.

Having just finished it, I'd say that that movie does not compress worth a damn. Ended up going the 2cd route, at some god awful high bitrate (2000), full resolution and mp3 sound. Looks pretty close to DVD, although I can tell on my 21' that it's basiclly = DVD with some ffdshow filters . (msharpen seems alright)

Well, if it doesn't compress thaaat well, then go the 2-pass way, with a 576x432 resolution. This should be ok.

Well, I simply used GordianKnot, set my standard 640xYYY resolution, 2-CD rip, AC3 soundtrack, DivX5.02 with b-frames on (no GMC, no psycho). No filtering at all, no pre-processing. If you ask me, it turned out well, although I didn't do anything special...
