I have a NOWA standalone DVD player, model DS-8316. It is a multizone player, but it seems like it is limited to 5 region changes. I was unaware of this limit, and now the DVD player is stuck in the wrong region :(

When I purchased the player, the store gave me two remote control hacks, one for multizone and one for macrovision. Neither of these two work anymore, and I can't watch my local movies.

I have looked for other hacks but my player is not well known and I can't find info any info on it. I have read on some newsgroups that the NOWA is a rebadged Desay player. At www.dvdanswers.com they have a lot of players but not mine :(

I was hoping someone here would know where I could get more info on the NOWA/Desay player. In particular I need a hack to change the region, because right now I'm stuck with a player that can't play my movies :(

Can anyone help out?

Well I hoped someone would know something about the NOWA/Desay player :(

If no one can help with that, could someone tell me if it's possible to update the firmware on standalone DVD players? That looks like my only hope. I can't find any websites for NOWA or the shop that I bought the player from. It was purchased in Australia, but I'm not living in Europe.

Anyone got any suggestions?

most cheap DVD players have PC DVD ROM drives... try opening it, look at the model/mark/etc. and check if there's a regionfree firmware at http://www.firmware.fr.st for your drive.

5 changes seems to be region-lock problem on the drive rather than in actual player....

Edit: It was purchased in Australia, but I'm not living in Europe. Hmmm... really? :)
