mpc98me.zip (http://vobsub.edensrising.com/get2.php/mpc98me.zip)
I'm posting this here because I'm trying to find out more of the compatibility of the capturing part of MPC. Already tested with the bt8x8 drivers from sf.net, with some gericom usb cam and with a dv cam.

well, it restarts my computer the same way as any other tuner app except bTV (that restarts after ~one hour). Damnit, I'll have to reinstall again :(

Yusaku: What drivers are you using? I had no major problems with those btwincap drivers (once I even captured 90 mins without framedrops).
Ivo: You can find the "record" button on the capture panel at the buttom, which should come up on the left side of the window after opening some device. For the green picture, try to change the renderers in the options, maybe the overlay mixer or the default renderer will show you something.

Hi Gabest,
the win2kxp archive seems to be broken, at least CompressIt complains about it and is unable to decompress it.

just now I think btWinCap ones... but it is some hardware thing. It started after messing up with patches for SB Live on my Via133 - you might know that this is one configuration that has major problems running, and even when it does (now...), it generates insane ammount of PCI traffic for no reason. And capturing being quite bus-intensive has hard time (even when it works, it has strange lines in picture etc. that were not present on old MB with BX chipset).
Anyway - it is not the fault of MPC, I am sorry I cannot help betatest though :)

ok,thanks for the tips,i'll try it....
btw. any considerations on including "segmentation" mode?
(i guess Koepi can help you with that....although he mentioned process already in thread on virtualVCR but (sadly) program author didn't listen...)
and MPC is GREAT player :it would be awesome it if could capture so well as it can play!
(i guess feedback from users (as myself) will help.......)
cheers

Segmented capture is not a good idea. You wouldn't be able to join them after the capture because of the slighlty different fps in each part.

I fell over that problem with ATV2k - nice to have segments, but the WDM capture is §$/§§&/ :(
If you could teach vdub to treat these segments like it's own (shouldn't be that hard, right?), it would be cool. But for now it's unusable for me - and I need my data drive accessable for every OS so I can't just convert it to NTFS...
Maybe we should Avery to look into this matter ;)
Anyways, thanks for your program Gabest, at least for testing WDM vs VFW (wrapped) capturing it's nice :)
Best regards,
Koepi

huh?
i don't think that's the problem:my tests on iuVCR & atv2000 (both "pure" wdm capture programs, although atv has vfw support too...) show that FPS rate is nicely stabilised (at 25FPS no matter what was the relative rate,ot what was the number of dropped frames...)so i can presume these programs repeat some frames to get targeted FPS rate....
so that's no problem.(i can join them afterwards:no problems there!)
but what IS problem--->when switching from one segment to another both programes miss a bit (audio & video) so there's a small time when program wasn't capturing (this is that time when it switches to another segment!)
VDub has no such problems:ALL is recorded even when the switching from one to another segment occurs!
so perhaps it would be cool if some of you programmers could ask Avery what's his secret?ie. what's the "engine" behind this.....
(VDub always ads one small file as the end segment...and it's always 12kB.......also:when starting capturing in multisegment mode it first writes to segment #2.....so perhaps this last segment is the one that takes care of syncing & "not droping on switching segments" stuff (?))

When I said that thing about the problems of joining, I was relying on my experiences with iuvcr (the only wdm based I knew). And I've neven been able to join the segments of iuvcr's output.

i have no trouble with that whatsoever!
all segments read "25FPS"(in vdub & windows properties)
samo resolution, same FPS rate, same codec-->you should be able
to join them.....
perhaps it was some older iuVCR version?
they DO join, but if you have audio sync issues, that's another issue!
i avoid that by coding each segment separately.....then in the end i join all Divx files with nandub or aviutil....
that way i get no audio sync issues (as when i join segments in VD...)
however i guess VD shows that it can be done...VD does that even when it captures with wrapper (wdm->vfw)

I've recently noticed that if I do not set the audio as the master stream, it captures exactly at the set framerate and the audio still doesn't get desyncronized (for me at least :)). I'll try to make that splitting if I don't forget :P

Ivo: I've just upgraded my btwincap drivers, and I got a green picture in yv12 when I set the width to be not divisable by 16. In the older driver it was just cropping the right side if it was less than 64*something :)

as i recall my test was on 704 x 576
(704 is "16 good"....")
btwincap i got aren't the most recent
but work fine in all other wdm programs....
i'll give it another try now...
hope mpc won't crash win2k as i'm coding something....
i also hope i'll find rec button...hehehehe
on the "audio master"....i usually leave box unchecked (in wdm programs) so no master stream is selected....
(i don't know if program itself then selects something etc.)
but i always (except for virtvcr) got clear 25fps (i tried master audio or video.....didn't saw any changes in fps rate..although i know that with virtualvcr i got funny fps rates as i remember..higher than 25 fps...25.112 etc...)
cheers
Ivo
(btw. is segmentation mode coming?can you use VD source
code to see details on that?please try to be exception & make proper segmentation mode for wdm capturing,i guess you'll be the first to do that...if you succeed->i wish you luck with that!....)
[update]->capture button?i'm on 15" and 800x600 so in that resolution capture button is not visible.......
->it seems that just preview is green....recorded avi is OK.....
in "preview pin" i cannot do anything to get proper (not green) picture...
try placing controls in horizontal pane (or put rec button to the top...heheh) & include segmentation....i don't care if preview is green as long it's recorded OK.....

this is great. some improvements are alway good to have with mplayerc. thanks gabest! i think it would be great if the player had two versions of it, one with just a few but great features including updated features and one with all the other stuff like recording and subtitle integration.
it would be good if mplayerc showed the video and audio bitrate of the movie, including the bitrate of real media files. also a feature ive been waiting to see if any media player could implement is the ability to boost the volume or normalize it in real time. like if you are playing an mp3 at 24bit the audio volume seems to be really low even when maxed out so if media player had the ability to boost this up it would be awesome. and also the ability to steal the video overlay from any program that may be using it.
on the recording, it seems to work okay, but i have like the oldest p3 here so recording on the fly is always slow.

oh and i forgot, if you had problems downloading it, you were probably using opera. i just tried it a while ago and opera gave me a size mismatch error. so i tried crazybrowser and it worked. so try using IE to download it.

Gabest, how do you install the glzw codecs that you have on the site. it comes with no readme files.
gabest
13th October 2002, 22:11
There is an inf file, right click and select install.

In which zip files of the codecs have the inf files? because I have both of them and none have an inf file inside.

http://download.vobsub.edensrising.com/get.php/glzw.zip
It has glzw.dll, glzw.inf and a src dir with the source files inside.

thanks. i got it. ive also learned something while trying to get it. be cautious when using Opera to download archives, you may not get what you wanted and the archive may end up being extractable but incomplete in the inside. theres more to it but thats just the simple way to put it. well it worked with IE. thanks again.
