View Full Version : DVD that kills IfoEdit and IfoUpdate

"Scorpion King" kills both of these programs.
I have late versions of these (IfoUpdate 0.53, IfoEdit 0.94 Beta 4)

IfoUpdate cannot load any of the IFO files from SK - it aborts with a "Runtime Error 9 - subscript out of range" (kind of ugly too - it's already written the file name into the .ini file, so if you don't edit the .ini file, you can't run IfoUpdate again!)

IfoEdit (actually 0.932 also crashes) crashes if you try and strip anything out of the main VTS (I was stripping non-English Audio and subtitles). Haven't run into any other issue with IfoEdit yet on this DVD.

Looks like there's something wrong with your VTS VOB file though.

I have no idea, what could be wrong.

It was ripped using DVD Decryptor 3.1.3.0 in File mode - There were no errors, and DVD2AVI seems to like it OK, and I'm able to extract the audio tracks and the subtitles, as well as play the whole movie using the d2v file in TMPGEnc. Not saying there's not something wrong with the VOBs, but seems like it's built in to them, rather than an error introduced along the way.

I'm buning that next!

I had no problem with it...

I'll let you know how it comes out in about 1.5 hours

SEE (IT WORKS............!)

Like I suspected.
So no prob with IfoEdit. Must be some kind of wrong usage though.

Would somebody agree to rename the thread to:
'DVD that kills IfoUpdate only.' :D

instead of: DVD that kills IfoEdit and IfoUpdate.

Same tools? Did you use DVDDecryptor, or smartripper (or something else to rip it). Did you use IfoEdit or IfoUpdate, so that you know they don't crash?

This would be no problem if I just wanted to do my own menus and pieces, but I'm trying to do a full backup with all the trimmings and
menus(except for extra trailers and stuff).

Are you doing a full backup or just burning the movie - cause just burning the movie is no problem - I can do that - it's trying to strip and IFOUpdate that are causing the problem.

Derrow,
I've used IFOEdit on many DVDs, this is the first that's crashed on me stripping, but it's 100% reproducible with multiple rips of the DVD. I'll try ripping it with SmartRipper and re-IfoEditing it and see if it has to do with DVDDecryptor. If you want to modify the title - fine, I don't care (I don't see a way for me to do it). It's certainly possible it's just me, but I've tried this on two different machines with two different rippings of the DVD, and it happens the same way every time. I'll do some more testing tonight and see what I can figure out.

OK, here's the deal - IF you choose "Correct IFOs", but don't choose "create new IFOs", you WILL crash. I've done this with 3 different computer systems, running 2 different OS's with both SmartRipper and DVDDecryptor.

They all crash correcting the IFO. But if I "create new IFOs" (which I don't think is what I want to really do, given that I want everything to work in the original - I lose the original Menu Unit this way) I don't crash and everything completes normally.

I think this is why "crow" works - his method, from the posts I've read is to strip the movie using create new IFOs to burn a backup.

quinn if you don't check create new .ifo's & stripp streams checked ifoedit won't create new .VOB's which means, on some DVD's you'll end up with A relocation error when you try to burn. (2k) (2047) blocks......

Note: The method you use ripp to HD can effect this also...

Good luck..

Aehem. Sorry, but this is nonsens.

The checkbox 'Create new IFOs', is for a movie only version. (no menu).
It means, IfoEdit will create new IFO files for a movie only version.
But VOB files will be created aswell, of course.

The checkbox 'Correct IFOs' in that, will create IFOs in the destination directory, but based on the original IFO files. Just all pointers get corrected, and in case of stripping, the audio/subp attributes get corrected too.

So the crash happens, after IfoEdit has pruduced the new VOB files, and changed VobUnit pointers ?

Do you have a VIDEO_TS.IFO in your source directory ?

quinn

Yes- there's the complete DVD in the source folder, video_ts.ifo, bup, all the VOBs, the works.

The crash is definitely after the VOBs have been created - I'm not positive about the VOBUnit pointers. I'm going to see if I can get any good info out of the crash information. Possibly try to get debug info from MS VC++. I'll let you know if I get any useful debugging information.

I'd like to see the IFO so I can see what causes the crash.

IfoEdit now works - v0.941 beta of IFOEdit fixes the problem. Thanks a bunch.

IFO files sent off to jdobbs...

@quinn

Attached is a new version of IFOUpdate (v0.54). The error occured when IFOUpdate encountered a PGC that had 0 cells associated with it. I can't for the life of me see why there would ever be a need for a PGC with no content... but obviously I should have at least considered the possibility.

Most likely a "dummy PGC". They are used to get from one title set to another (since that can not be done directly). All they do is jump someplace.

Ahh... I see what you mean, they can have a function. I looked at the IFO where I got the error, and it appears that each dummy PGC has a different "Pre Command" to change the audio stream number to one of 8 different values.

Thanks!

Awesome guys - now all I have to do is figure out some of the really wierd stuff these guys are doing - but that's the fun part.....

Thanks for the responsiveness - it's impressive...

Question to all of you, i just got done backing up scorpion king. The first couple of time i was working on it it just hosed on me. Last night though, the conveersion was working. All i am trying to do is keep the original menus and the main movie, 4.35 gig or so. Read some where that if you rename the vts_07_*.* to vts_01_*.* and get vectors it will correct the lack of playback problems and structure for remaining files, menues, chapters, movie, will still work, and they do to a point. It all works, i just lost the intro into the main menu and the movie just starts. But if i pull up the mtitle menu everything that is supposed to work does work ( i took the vob ids out for language before i realized that i did not need to strip the languages out) I am just a little confused why i lost the startup memu when the disc is inserted into the dvd player. I would like to not make this mistake in the future if anyone has any advise.

Don't know how much of anything can work renaming vts_07 to vts_01. The Title sets in the main IFO point off to vts_07, as do the intro sections and menus. Moving it to vts_01 will cause it to "work", kind of, because I think that's where the FBI warning was. Any menus/extras that were in the original vts_07_0.vob won't work after renaming unless you do some judicious editing of the video_vts.

I do not know why but it works. I read it on another thread in the forum some where. Any questions give a shout.
