hello ppl!
i have observed a strange, but interesting correlation between the "production" of dvd-r coasters and the "atimmc.exe" software. for those not familiar with ATIMMC: it's ATI's MultiMedia Center that is used for watching tv, recording videos etc. on All-In-Wonder and VIVO cards.
since recording dvd-rs takes an awful lot of time, i like watching tv (like the discovery channel ;)) in the background while my pioneer dvr-a04 (firmware 1.32) is supposed to fabricate USEFUL movie discs. but what i saw, was that as long as my tv was running, nero 5.5.9.9 (and also 5.5.9.0 and 5.5.8.2) would produce coasters after coasters!!! once, i coincidentally closed the tv window because i went to the gym, and voilą, a useable DVD-R was created in the meantime!!! although i was using crappy princos (unbalanced discs with sharp edges  ), it was, at first, too much of a coincidence that after 5 coasters (including one 3M imation dvd-r and one TDK), one princo came out ok.
sometimes, just closing the atimmc application is NOT enough -- it might still run in the background because it was not shutdown properly somehow! if that is the case, you can try to click on the tv button as often as you want -- the tv will simply not work. a quick glance into the taskmanager (with [ctrl][alt][delete]) reveals that there are a few "atimmc.exe" sessions active. if you kill all those sessions, your tv becomes useable again (and i can burn clean dvds). btw, if such an event happens, the internet explorer might actually freeze!!! but as soon as the (in)active atimmc session is closed, the IE comes back to life! this "symbiosis" is repeatable and observable EVERY time -- so, no one-time thinggy. hmmm... therefore, i conclude that atimmc might also interfere with nero. i will look further into depth about this issue, but i thought i might want to share my problems with you ppl.
HAS ANYONE ELSE OBSERVED THIS STRANGE BEHAVIOR AS WELL???
greetings from the 3rd planet!
