I used Universal Asia, Digitex, Lead Data, Auvistar, TDK to write DVD-video for using in a common DVD Pleer and found...

1) Universal Asia and Digitex are very bad disks

2) Lead Data and Digitex have color like brown or some like that
Universal Asia and Auvistar have more like violet color

3) Pioneer writes all disks (except TDK) whith strange difects...
There are some sort of gray dots on the working side of a disk.
I don't know what are they, but I think that they cause sound and
video breaks during plaing film when bit rate is high
(aprox.7-9 Mbs).

4) Strange thing is that my DVD player reads violet disks much better
then brown disks. So film wtitten on Auvistar playing better then
same film written on Lead Data. (Both disks have dots difects)

My question is... Is this dots means that my Pioneer is broken?
May be I need to change burning programm (I use Nero 5.5.5.6)
And what disks would be optimal for my DVR?

Thanks!

Try cleaning the discs before you burn them.

Make sure you use a lint free cloth and a little water should do the trick.

Pioneers can't write to crap media. If you want to be sure, use non-rebranded 2x media.

I have burnt some Auvistar CDs 2 or 3 years ago. 1 out of 6 is still readable. I will never waste one single cent on Auvistar.

yikes!

gooki, according to MY experience, even a lint-free cloth might create very fine scratches on the recording surface! so unless there are oil residues (from fingerprints) which aren't supposed to be there ;), i recommend using something like "dust-off" compressed air!!! it's worth the investment if you consider the premium you pay for good media.

you might also want to blow the tray of the dvd-burner with the compressed air once in a while.

i actually observed that media coming from spindles have less dust than the ones in single packages...

"hasta la vista, baby!"
