I'm trying to encode Monsters Inc for backup copy.
I have tried a first pass(with Nandub) without any filtering(except crdeits:temporal smoothing) and it gives me a compressibility of 42%.
However the lenght of the movie is only 1h20 without the credit and almost 9min of credits.
This gives me a desired bitrate of 850 kbps(because of two audio tracks). But the question is not here.

I thought this value was very low but I do the second pass and the result isn't so bad.

But I have heard(read) of a topic about filtering in CG movies. First I did a search in the forum but CG is only two characters and I didn't found anyting.

Does somone could share his experience in filtering CG movies?
And is it really necessary to filter CG movie since the source in this case is really good. And I fear to lost encoding time and to lose quality(ie too much detail) if I filter it.

PS: I used to encode with Nandub or a little with Xvid, but does divx5 could give better results in this case?

If you want some extra compressibility, try using BilinearResize. I made a compressibility test a while ago, you can find the thread somewhere in the SVCD/VCD encoding and authoring forum.

I didn't found any post that deals with CG filtering in DVD2svcd.
I remember one topic and i thought it was in divx3 or gordian knot.
