Thought for DVD Decrypter

The only reason I'm still using Smartripper is that you can rename the files you rip, DVD Decrypter seems superior in every other way.

I've looked for this feature in DVD Decrypter but I haven't been able to find it. It seems to create a directy named with the DVD's volume name and then the default file names in that directy (vts_01_1.vob or whatever it is) without giving me a chance to choose a filename. I guess this isn't a problem when there is just one movie on the DVD, but I'm currently ripping X-Files where there are 4 episodes per DVD, and it's a royal pain renaming them manually (hence I use Smartripper instead).

Any plans on implenting this (simple?) feature? Or is it perhaps already there and I just haven't found it?

Are the episodes in different pgcs?
If so, just tick the 'Include PGC Number' option on the IFO tab in the settings.
Other than that, there are no real plans to change anything. sorry!

Yeah, they are in different pgcs. I'll try that option you mention.

Would you mind if I asked why there aren't any plans for this? Too hard to implent? Would it disturb other things? I was very surprised when this (obvious I thought) feature wasn't there.

Well in the four years ive being doing this, I honestly cant ever remember being asked for such a thing.
Its only really a problem on dvds with multiple episodes and stuff which pretty much counts out all of the movies - and that is what most people have been ripping up until now.

It worked quite well using that file name option you mention. Only problem is that the ifo-file isn't renamed , which is a (very) minor problem when you extract the subs via Vobsub (you have to rename the ifo so it is the same as the vob).

Personnally I like the default names used in DVDDecrypter. All the information in it directly. I wonder if there is a way to do in IFO mode to demux by m2v,ac3 all PGC for all VTS with only one click ?

And as a new feature, I would greatly appreciate a Copy 1:1 Dvd5, ripping from the DVDROM and writing to the DVD burner in same time; I had so many trouble with on the fly copy of nero, Gear DVD and others, that I rip to HD with DVDDecrypter every time and burn with Gear DVD, file mode.

And even if you never add this feature, your tool is one the best piece of software I know. Thanks for that already

As I have found myself, not all readers can cope with reading DVD-R (5) discs and so the burning would fail.
I'd rather save myself the trouble of having to explain why people keep breaking their discs when trying to back up their dvd rips on the fly.
Im not saying I'll never do it, just not yet.

Yes I understand, you would surely would have to answer too many questions about coasters, just for a feature that is already there, through HD and in 2 clicks instead one...

Firstly, thanks for the great piece of software.
Secondly, Is it possible for DVD Decrypter to choose the source from an existing directory on the hard disk rather than from a DVD drive? The reason for this is sometimes I hired a DVD, I used DVD Decrypter to extract all the files to the HD, and returned the DVD. I later realised that to be able to copy the DVD correctly, I have to use the IFO mode and extract the PGCs separately. Unfortunately, eventhough I got a copy of the original DVD on the HD, I can't use it in DVD Decrypter (I can get around it by using Nero to create an image and then mount that image as a DVD drive). It would be much easier, if DVD Decrypter would allows us to select a directory on the HD as the source.
Thirdly, with the subtitles files demuxed from the movie, which program can we use to read it in? I'm currently only use Scenarist to author the DVD, but Scenarist can't recognized the subtitle file produced by DVD Decrypter.

You dont need it to read from the hdd. Instead of reading all the files in file mode, simply use ISO mode. That's what I created it for :D

Do you have the answer to the third question, which is what program(s) can read in the demuxed subtitle files that produced by DVD Decrypter? is there an immediate step that needed to be perform before Scenarist can read it? or the file will not be read by Scenarist at all?

I dont think demuxed subtitles are any use at all, and Ive heard there are problems even when using 'raw' demux. Best bet is to leave subs on direct stream copy and then use subrip to do the job of ocr'ing them from the vob file.
