Ok this was sparked by a reply i had about tivo. I then proceed to read up on tivo...finding pretty much what has been know for over a year.
Now, Im putting tivo aside here due to HDTV capture is obvioulsy going to be the standard in a couple years if not a couple months.
Ive read about the AVX-1 over at the avs forum...not going so hot after ready a the post's by 'Dean Roddey' who has actually bought one and is testing it out, the beta version.
The TIVO reply almost sparked me to lay down 500usd right now to get the set the way i wanted, now. But flying over to AVSforum i see that HDTV is more hopefully if and when it come's.
This in regard's to i am keeping my current capturing setup with svideo with GPU's or Cards. Should i save money and wait for HDTV, or spend this money i am willing to pay to proceed in working out the best possible solution for s-video in from sat box? TIVO is out. I can see how it can improve quality, and i can see how it would inmprove processing time. Also above all, i really don't see it being NOTICABLY better than what i am doing now...atleast not from the spec's. I have yet to see a still image from a TIVO capture so i cannot commint fully to that...but that's where my money is, literally.
So my ? is this. Sorry to possibly cause fury, i know this is usually a 95% technical help board but i imagine futuring, as the future grows futher is needed.
When HDTV get's here...what will be the overhead for you. I mean something as simple as just editing out commercials or inserting more commercials...or even just a basic resize filter. Will we need to get MUCH better hardware or will a 2ghz cpu setup with 512ram suffice?
I know there is alot of you that keep in touch with all area's of capture, moderator's or not. So the TIVO method, current HDTV method, or any other's are not to my knowledge. I have spent like i said ALL night browsing but it seem's my hunt is not worthy of the time im putting forth. I've looked but not too much out there that is what im looking for. It seems current user's of these method's have moved on to getting a hdtv capture device, and working out bug's. So that is mainly the thread's i see. That sadly is not me and sadly does not help for i don't even have a device or service for HD.
Save money to try to get a pretty good setup when it finally become's stable as far as capturing....or ride what im doing now out and hope for the best. I only have right now about 500usd to spend on this. That 500usd will totally bust me so don't think im rich. It would bust me for like 2months'. Now in 6 months i could have that figure at ~1500usd in hope's of seeing a stable HD setup.
I know this is relative...but what is your relative advice. As far as it being relative to when the first HD cap device hit's i don't see it being so relative however. Most likely everybody will just latch onto the first, well consturcted device and work out the problems with it. I know there is still other things that play in like the PC itself but most likely everybody can just Q&A over the same device or just a couple of them...hopefully. This was really sparked because of the product i saw at www.169time.com ...but it is obviously farrrrr from worked out, but it's the first sign's of life i see for a true digital capture. The user 'Dean Roddey' actually claimed it to be a "ritual" to set it up...and he seems to be the user that has tested it the most. Atleast as far as i have seen tonight several place's.
Im really tired, so if this seems' nutz to post about please don't hate me...im just in search of the next best thing like the rest of us. Also my budget is obviously tight considering 1500usd would bust me for 6 months.
Im totally open minded to positive or negative comments about this post or anything mentioned in it. No offense will be taken so lay it on me.
