View Full Version : vStrip doesn't rip .ifo files, any other option?

Hey all ;)
I am currently ripping Anime episodes (Sol Bianca, first disc atm). I've successfully ripped 2 episodes with SmartRipper, but the third one gave me a few problems: It creates a vts_01_1, 3 and 4 file, and there's no vts_01_2.vob file.
I thought hey, what if I tried vStrip? This rips correctly (ofcourse) but the problem is, it doesn't rip a .IFO file, which I need to make subtitles. Is there any other way to get this ifo file, or to get smartripper to make the right rip? (I tried making a dvd2avi project file and a subtitle file with the smartripper rip, but the .sub file came out as 0 bytes).
Thanks in advance ;)

hi,
the .ifo file are not crypted simply copy the file from your dvd to your hd.

Hm, does that really work? Cause I thought it didn't, since the .IFO file contains information on where which chapter begins (at least that's what I thought ;))
Oh well, I'll try that :P How do I tell Vobsub where to begin then?
[edit:]
It still didn't work... vobsub did create a subtitle file this time, but it was still 100kb instead of the expected 900-1000kb =\

The ifo file must be the same name as the vob file you're trying to get the sub files from.

I know that... as I said, Vobsub doesn't make a correct sub file out of it =\

Did you use the OK button or did you try the "i've crossed my fingers and stripped the sources" button? Sometimes the OK button doesn't do it if the whole source isn't there, as with you're trying to do with a title or two.

I did the "I crossed my fingers" option since the "OK" button didn't work for episode 1 and 2.
My problem probably is that Smartripper won't rip the source correctly, it's not with Vobsub (I think).

Were you using smartripper in movie mode to rip a title or in files mode to rip specific vobs? Were any of the vobs it ripped empty (0kb)? I find it's better to set smartripper to rip it all to 1 vob and not have separate vobs lying around unless it is going to be huge.

I used it in Movie mode, ripping only one chapter. I left the VOB filenames intact, so it gave me:
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_3.vob
vts_01_4.vob
vts_01_1.ifo
and some other files
no vts_01_2.vob, that's what's been bothering me ;)
Also, the length that DVD2AVI gives me at the end doesn't correspond with the chapter length.

Have you tried ripping it with DVDDecrypter yet? I've never had trouble with smartripper missing a vob, although sometimes it does give an empty first vob just to keep the chain going.

It seems to work, or at least it gives a good VOB chain ;) Thanks! I'll let you know if it worked ;)
