I've been using Nero's wave editor to convert my wav files to mp3pro's for months now and all the sudden it stopped working...
It was the quickest and best way for me to convert my wavs or overkilled 320 bitrate mp3s to a lower bitrate without losing any quality and saving a ton of space.
When I open a wav file it creates the peak file for it, then when I do 'save as' mp3pro it just crashes the program when I hit the options button or if I don't hit it and try to save, nothing happens at all.

Did you happen to install an old version of DivX;) lately? That might cause it as it replaces some mp3 codecs which might cause that to happen.

I know I've got divx 5pro installed though. Maybe I should install it again?

A bit OT but transcoding is not a good idea. And mp3pro is definitely not a good idea. If you want good quality mp3s use lame and aps. If you really want files with small size and acceptable quality try Ogg (I suggest q1).

mp3pro has better quality than ogg vorbis @ 64 kbps.

Hmm, I would say it's a matter of personal taste, which artifacts are you willing to accept (IMO ogg sound better). But I definitely prefer it at 80 kbps (that's why I suggested q1).
Btw. as far as 64 go:

well, i'm a no-no supporter of mp3pro, mostly comparing to vorbis@q1.
on the other hand, we can't really flame mp3pro and say it has poor quality comparing to other codecs.
