Massive Color errors capturing to HuffyUV

Anyone got any ideas on this?

System is winXP, asus a7v133 motherboard, nvidia v-7100 deluxe video/capture. All latest drivers. PCI tweaks, etc.

I get LOTS of single frame errors capturing to HuffyUV in
YUY2 mode. Example :

I'm totally baffled by this. And everything I record, I have to *manually* scan, frame by frame looking for these errors so I can edit them out off a backup recording.

They never happen in the same place, there is no predictability, and they happen when capturing to huffy, DV, etc.

They happen when using a BT8x8 capture card instead of the nvidia's chip.

Anyone have any ideas?

Uh, oh! Never saw something like that...

First, did you try to capture with other codecs? MJPEG et al?

Try that first. If you get the same error, try to check your connections, cables, drivers and maybe even the source (well, that's more than unlikely).

Have you tried the BTWINCAP drivers for you BT card (exact model, please!)

Have you tried to capture with your nvidia card (same error?)?

well, I get the same kinds of flashes no matter what codec, which leads me to believe it's not a codec issue.

And it happens on BOTH bt878 captures AND nvidia captures.

Which is why I'm utterly baffled.

ive seen that before...i thought most people have. My issue was i was capturing in avi_io and neither yuy2 or yuyv was available for capture...and i was capturing with huffyuyv. this was actually on a ati vivo. what i did...im guessing that fuc't it up was i installed the software for the GPU that came with the cd. Then i installed the bt8x8 software. Or vice versa i can't remember. Anyhow it went away when i updated my GPU's driver's from the offical ATI website. It was like i was using huffy but my hardware absolutely refused to even accept it to be outputted to a yuy2 format....so it conflited somehow and outputted some twisted rgb24 huff combination. I would try to cancel out RGB if i were you as much as possible aswell. [Edit again: a ha...try to capture in all available format's for your card...see which one's if not all have those line's...now that im sitting here thinking what i did i am almost certain it was because i was some how capturing in rgb...almost certain...almost really really certain]

I know exactly what you mean...they go anywhere at anytime...and it seem's, if you open it up in vdub it's happening in a random...but pattern like at time's. If you go to the very end of the video and see that and/or the begging then this problem is probably the same as what mine was. although not all my capture's had this at the begging and the end but alot did. It might of been irony buy i think atleast 60% had that fuc't up frame either at the begging or end.

I posted about that same noise here a almost year ago in regard's to capture Bob The Builder-Can We Fix It cap from vhs. I never posted a .jpg to let anybody see it but Cart told me to download new driver's for my graphic's card and see if that helped. [EDIT HERE: actually now that i remember i did post a .jpg with that noise, wether or not he looked at it i don't know but ask CART to look at it]... He mentioned other thing's but that is what i remember because it was what seemed to correct the issue. This noise was very temporary for me. Like about 45minute's then i installed the new driver's and it was gone. Also i had the noise vertically aswell...only when i changed the settings though...not randomly vertical and horizontal during the same capture.

My exact problem was this this. (and still is but the noise is gone) At one point i applied some driver, i can't remember, and it locked out yuy anything on my ati vivo. I had other format's that i previously did not have but soem format's where gone. I tried capturign in huffyuyv with it's default capture setting's. And i got that noise.

so since it is not the driver's...did you try what Ookami said and check cable's

did you try to put a different graphics card in it and see if it still exist's?

can you capture in yuy2?? i imagine so.

btw what are you capturing with...have you tried different cap applications?

also in huffy did you try setting the line's from 288 to 480 or vice versa? Uncheck convert to rgb? change the predict gradient and other options at top (im tired and can't remember them)

all in all it's only a temporary problem. In the mist of changing/updating driver's i also reassigned irq's and removed both boards. Im not sure if that had anything to due with it though.

I thought this noise was actually common for a problem. I guess not.

probably a conflict in your bios settings if all else fails

you should list your tweaks aswell. and reinstall or update your via driver's...if your using them on that asus.

to tell you the truth my card is still stuck like that too inside the hardware i guess...i never worked it out. yuy2 or yuyv is still not available...but those's line's went away. It's sitting across from now...just laughing at me in one of those static bag's.

To clarify some points from above ...

The capture card I'm using *is* my video card (Nvidia GF2/MX400 deluxe)
using the latest drivers, XP SP1 (so it has the latest direct-x), and
latest PCI latency/VIA service pack.

I get these colorflashes one one frame only, at random odd points during the capture. They happen with HuffyUV and PicVideo MJPEG with all the usual "tweaks and twiddles" associated with the settings in those codecs.

So, to summarize ... due to experimentation, these colorflashes occur independant of capture card (yes, I stuffed a bt878 card in and used it instead of the nvidia, then put a noname cheapo agp card as well), video card, and video codec.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might help fix this problem?
