i can't find the time to keep my comp on for +6 hours to do 2-3 passes straight. tonight i'll be keeping my comp on, but i don't really want to do this the next time. is it possible to pause and resume encoding using DVD2SVCD + CCE ?

btw, if you find that question noobish, it is :D

Hello!

After the steps of dvd2svcd you can try to break manualy and do a crasch recovery.
During a process (CCE) you can try to switch to standby mode, if your OS allows.

As far as I know there is no way to stop CCE or TMPG and then resume.
You can manually stop DVD2SVCD in between programs, but not in the middle.
I suggest you do your encodes when you are not using the computer like when you are asleep. You can also change the task priority to idle and if you are using XP this does help you use other programs a good bit. However you won't be able to do much CPU intensive progams like games and the such.
This is the only real drawback of encoding it does take serious CPU cycles and can't be interrupted.

What I do when I'm in the middle of encoding, and want to go to bed (since my comp is right next to my bed, and I can't sleep with it on).. is I just hibernate the computer (if you have XP, hold shift at the shutdown screen and the standby button will switch to hibernate). This will save everything that is in your RAM to your hard drive, and restore it to RAM when you next start up. This way you will get your sleep, and not stop the encoding. I haven't had a problem with it yet...

You can interrupt after vaf is created and encode runs. when recovering, say you keep the vaf.
Why don't you wan't it to run at night? I pile up my rips and edit the batch file with the WIN98 "Start /wait " headers and send them to work overnite. When I come back from work the next day...voila...(sometimes not:( )

Be careful with this one. Check out this thread (RE : restarting from the encoding step)
