When making a 'backup' of your DVD's, set your software to create image sizes of 650mb (if it allows this) and burn the image (BIN & CUE) itself to a CDR as a data session.
I have countless problems copying SVCD's so it's better to always have the image at hand.
I create the images with DVD2SVCD set to use VCDXBUILD, copy the image to a 650mb CDR (which I get for £10/100) and when I need the movie, I burn it to a 650mb CDRW or CDR and watch it that way.
I know a lot of writers give horrible problems when trying to copy an SVCD - My Sony CRX1611 takes about 2 hours to copy and this was the solution when I wanted to do another copy at a later date.
Hope this helps someone.
