So I'm ripping some of my favorites DVD's in SmartRipper 2.41
using the Direct Stream Copy. I always choose the English 6channel
AC3 audio with the main video file and unchecked everything else.

Anyway, during a rip a few days ago, I noticed a little box in SmartRipper
under the Output files section that shows AV delay.

Stupid me, here I was thinking the audio was synch'ed up to the
video perfectly all this time...

Sometimes this value is pretty high, like 700-800 miliseconds.
Sometimes is somewhat low, like around 10-20 miliseconds.
Its always a different value on different DVD's.

I just curious why there is even any delay present?
Is high values like 700-800ms making my output really "off"?
Is this something I should/could be changing?

I think it's because the audio stream was inserted into the movie later than the video stream, i.e. having a mute for first 8 seconds.

It depends on how you adjust the setting of audio transcoder or multiplexer, and maybe some other softwares that can correct the delay time.

If the output movie got asyn A/V, you can try to use AC3 Delay Corrector, or to adjust delay time during transcoding or multiplexing.
