ReMPEG2 Monsters Inc

I have ripped monsters inc
stripped the VOB's of all but english language and subs.
made the final file size smaller using ReMPEG2 and then remuxed the file back to VOB's
added missing files and burned using Prazzi primodvd.
The movie plays back in my standalone player fine...BUT without sound ?
If i stop the movie and restart it trying to access the menu on the remote, the movie starts WITH the soundtrack ?
any ideas Guy's ??????????

If you're doing just the movie then it should fit on a DVD without Re-encoding. I just ripped the movie and the DD soundtrack and it came in at 3.58GB.

I am trying to rip the collectors edition and even stripped it is nearly 4.9GB

Oh so you want everything on the disc? I bought the movie but I still made a disc of just the 16:9 version so that I could watch it without the layer change and I don't have to pic the audio or video mode.

i'm not making myself very clear.
The original disc is the collectors edition one.
i am trying to backup the movie only.
when ripped, stripped and renamed the video_ts folder is more than 4.7GB.
thats why i re-encoded it.
If you have done it without re-encoding ...please give me step by step account of the way you did it.

Maybe your disc is different from mine. In the US the region 1 disc is a collectors edition 2 disc set. On the first disc is the movie in 16:9 and 4:3 and some additional previews.
I used DVDDecrypter to strip out the 16:9 version only. Then I used IFOedit to strip out the other two audio tracks and the subtitles. Then I checked it in PowerDVD 4 and it played fine. I burned it to DVD-R and it played fine. If you have a region 2 disc maybe it's somehow different from mine.

how do you strip out the 16:9 version if both versions are in the same VOB set ?

On my disc VTS_01_x is the 16:9 movie and VTS_04_x is the 4:3 movie.
So I just ripped the VTS_01_x files.

The Monsters Inc R2 Collector's edition Disc 1 is quite a clever bit of work. The movie title set (VTS_09) contains 10 vob-ids but only 3 to 10 are referenced by the PGCs. The first two contain about 20 mins or so of the beginning of the movie but with no sound. Therefore you need to think abit before launching into ripping it. However, I did the following which avoided having to to major re-encoding. Use IfoEdit and strip vts_09 but do not keep vob-ids 1 and 2 and I also lose the isolated special effects soundtrack which was the fourth audio stream (if you want to make life even easier you can lose the DTS track, which is not on the R1 version). If you keep the DTS then you end up with a complete disc set of about 4.58 Gb. Vts_01 is the audio setup screens for the THX and you can loose that (it's probably best to replace the 80Mb file with a small dummy one). That leaves you to save another 50 Mb or so which can be achieved by redoing the future releases promo / the Finding Nemo trailer / or the THX into screen. These will only take a short time to re-encode. However, if you left out the DTS soundtrack you can skip the above as you'll have 100's of MB free.

Drmih, I was trying to copy Monster Inc. on the weekend and did had the few problems. I did not understand why at the time, but since I read your post, I now understand why.
Basically, when I look at the disc, the original VOB_9 files are about 6Gigs in total. Below are my attempts:
1. Strip the original VOB_9 files to HD, then used IFOEDIT to strip out all the subtitle except english, and all the audio except the AC-3, but the files still bigger than 4.3Gigs.

2. I used DVD decrypter to look at the main movie file and it shows there are 2 PGCs. The first is the main movie itself which is about 1:28:00 minutes long and the second PGC is 0:00:00 in length. I ripped out the first PGC with all the sound tracks, but when I look at the files they are much less than 4Gigs.

Is it possible to re-built the IFO files (ie. Video_01_0.ifo and VTS_09_0.ifo from the ripped PGC1 files? I tried, but I could not get it to work at all.

If you're having problems with what I said previously then try this. Copy all of the files to the hard disk using DVD Decrypter in File Mode. If you use IfoEdit and look at VTS_09 then you will see two PGCs - one the movie and another a spoiler. However, if you look at the vob-ids being used you'll see that PGC1 uses 3 to 9 and PGC2 uses 10. You will find that vob-ids 1 and 2 are in VTS_09_1 and VTS_09_2. However VTS_09_2 also contains the beginning of vob-id 3. Therefore rename vts_09_1 and vts_09_2 to something else. Now use Vobrator and load in whatever you have changed vts_09_2 to. When the file is loaded you will see references to vob-ids 2 and 3. Highlight vob-id2 and unclick 'include in output' and then save the file as vts_09_1.vob. Now rename the remaining files in the vts_09 file set so that you have a continuous set e.g vts_09_1, _2, _3, _4 and _5. Now use IfoEdit and select vts_09_0.ifo and then select vob extras and check the strip streams and write to a new directory (don't bother with messing with the vob-ids as we've already done that) and omit audio stream 4 (and also audio stream 2 if you don't want DTS) and select the required subtitles. After that just follow my previous post about saving the extra bit of space and that's it.

nb. I've had to watch the bloody film 5 times over the weekend and can confirm that it works fine!!
