Is a DIRECT STREAM COPY still encoded as AC3 audio?

If I rip a DVD in SmartRipper 2.41 and choose to rip the video and the main AC3 audio track into one Direct Stream Copy... is the output in my .vob files still AC3 audio???

Is my .vob files still encoded with AC3 and can be sent outside of my computer to an AC3 decoder???

Direct Stream Copy does exactly that. It copy the stream 'as is' to the destination vob file.
If it was ac3 in the first place, it will be ac3 once ripped.

Cool... thats what I thought..

A person on a different post was trying to tell me
I had to Demux the audio into a different file in order
to have AC3 encoding.

What is the main reason why someone would DEMUX?

You would use 'demux' when you just want a file containing the audio and nothing else.
This would make the program create an AC3 file holding all of the audio data instead of including it in the resulting vob file.
You can then convert the ac3 to a wav or mp3 and use it in vcds etc.

Something like that anyway ;)
