Hello,
I've been ripping/encoding movies for the past few months, so I'm pretty comfortable with it, now. Until I took on the task of ripping/encoding the TV show "24". Here is a brief scenario, there are 6 DVDs in the set. There are 4 shows per DVD. I ripped each DVD using SmartRipper, breaking down each show into seperate folders. I am able to encode the first two shows of each DVD with no problems at at all. However, when I get to the third show in each DVD, the whole process causes DVD2SVCD to freeze. Somehow, the whole process never gets to the DVD2AVI sequence. Has anyone attemped encoding these TV series? If so can you help me with my problem? Thanks.

You should read up a bit before you post first off you dont post problem posts of any kind in the advanced area this belongs in the basic topic so be for warned. Also we dont give support for any other ripper besides the one's given to you in dvd2svcd package. If you want you can try re ripping the vob files with internal routines and then try the process with dvd2svcd again.

I have some experiance with Smartripper. A few things first, like Chainsaw135 says we dont support anything but Vstrip and Internal routines that come with D2S. Also Smartripper is what is causing the problems with your encode.
Now what I have seen is that Smartripper (more so with the older versions) will work, most of the time, if you use it to rip a whole movie (keep in mind that I am not suggesting to do this, its just something that I have noticed). If you use Smartripper to rip episodic DVDs that you will get an error. D2S will open DVD2AVI and then close it down in like 5 secs. I think that this might have something to do with the fact that Smartripper will save the .vob files with the correct name that they have on the DVD. If you use the internal routines then they will name the .vob files in sequential order (ie. if you are riping vts_1_03.vob Smartrppier will keep the same name D2S will rename it vts_1_01.vob and go from there, this might be some of the problem with Smartripper and D2S)
The only option that you have is to rerip the vob files with Smartripper and even that might not work. If you still get the problem you will have to get the DVD again and rip it from the DVD.

As Jason28 already told you the problem with SmartRipper, I will just add the following to his post:
When you rip with SmartRipper you will see that your 3rd, 4th and so on episodes have vts_01_1.vob as 0 bytes file and then you will be have vts_01_3.vob with some data. If you notice properly, it misses vts_01_2.vob. DVD2AVI doesn't like this. It wants all the files like vts_01_1.vob, vts_01_2.vob and so on. If you are missing files, copy the vts_01_1.vob in the same folder and rename it to vts_01_2.vob and so on till your sequence is complete like below
vts_yy_x
where yy is the Title on the DVD and x is the vob's in the title. This will get you past DVD2AVI but you may encouter other problems so always rip your DVDs with internal routines or vstrip.
