View Full Version : help needed: my ATI AIW AV won't capture with VDub

i recently bought an ATI AIW Radeon 8500 DV.
VDUB doesn't recognize it and won't let me capture.
the TV software that came with the card does capture, though.

here's what i already tried:
-installed latest drivers
-tried to install btwdm drivers. didn't work because of some win98SE issue
-tried to instal WDM wrapper (whatever that is) because i found a topic in this forum which said it would probably help. drivers wouldn't install, too because of some hardware recognition problem.

any help would be appreciated :-)

i suppose there r a lot of AIW 8500 owners out there. is there nobody who encountered the same problem and solved it somehow?

I don't know if this is any help, but I use win2k and this has worked numerous times:

PS: if you upgrade (ha) to XP, then everything works 100% right out of the box

after installing win98 completely new i managed to install the wrapper i got from:

VDub now does capture now :D

my win 98 installation was pretty old anyway. i hope
i don't have to install it again to solve every new problem
though. :rolleyes:

looks like i still haven't solved all my problems. :(

at the moment capturing works only via the TV tuner but not with
video or s-video input. there's an overly in VDub when using these
line ins in overlay mode but not with preview.
also all i get capturing is a completely green picture.

anyone has a solution for this new problem???

after installing/deinstlling drivers several time capturing seems to work fine now but a new problem occured.

the sound is a little bit choppy. it sounds a bit like an old vinyl LP with some pops.
there seems to be some problem beetween the AIW and the soundcard because it's not only for capturing but for playback sometimes, too.
but there's no hardwar conflict in the system properties.

i makes no difference connecting the VCR to the line in of the soundcard (sound blaster awe 64 gold) or into the break out box of the AIW 8500 which is connected to the line in of the soundcard anyway.

i wonder if when i have a solution for this problem any new will pop up and if i probably should switch to XP better.

Hi,

I mentioned in a recent post the now famous PCI latency Patch. Assuming you have a VIA chipset on your motherboard, this piece of software can solve sound crackles you mention (I had the same, now they're all gone). These crackles are a well known issue somhow related to the way your sound card and your ATI "share" access to the PCI bus (Bear with me if this is not exactly correct, I'm no specialist after all, corrections are welcome) ;)

Just download the PCI latency Patch, install and voila.
(you can uninstall anytime)

had no problem installing the patch. playback and capture sound is much better now but unfortunatly still not perfect. wouldn't be such a problem if i woouldn't want to capture some concerts.

just one last question.

anybody know if i will have the same sound problems with the following 2 combinations:

- windows XP / VIA chipset / Soundblaster AWE 64 gold / ATI AIW 8500 DV

- windows 98 / VIA chipset / terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 / ATI AIW 8500 DV

i'm asking because i have to decide if i replace the system or the soundcard.
