This is undoubtedly true for straight disc backup e.g PS2 DVD ROM's but is DVD video where by the time its decrpted RAW writing is unnecessary and RAW writing alone will not overcome encryption
However with my DVDR Pioneer 104 it tells me that it is not RAW mode compatible can.
Is this software specific e.g. VOB instant says it and cannot write in RAW mode and it is useless at backing up discs but Primo and even Nero usually work.
Can it be altered by firmware where it is not?

If I understand your question correctly, no, it is not possible to burn an encrypted DVD. In order to do that you would need to be able to burn info into the sector headers (the encryption key), and recordable DVD have pre-written, unalterable, headers (they are stamped into the disk along with the pre-groove).

No my question relates to whether a DVDR drive that is showing as not compatible with RAW writing within a burning programme can be made to be compatible with RAW writing to do backups of DVD ROM's more successfully.
Or is it fixed into the hardware and therefore other than get a new drive - no solution.
As I had to do to get Clone CD to backup 100% successfully with CD's with encryption e.g. PSone games and PS2 CD games.
DVD video is a different matter and thanks to Ifoedit no probs with that and you don't need RAW mode as by the time burning no encryption present.

Got ya - I didn't know there could be a problem with RAW writing, as it is no different than writing from image. RAW read is something that not all drives support, but most newer ones can be updated via firmware.

use GearDVDPro to burn an image file created by ifoedit.
this works.
everytime.
i've tried all the apps talked about on this board and Gear is by far the simplest thanks to derrow/CouJo's image creator.
