Hi.
I just wanted to do another encode with dvd2svcd,
and when I was finished configuring and wantet to start
encoding it told me the bitrate was too high.
It always names the same bitrate, no matter which
bitrate settings i choose (how many and how large
cd's) - so i wonder what that error really means and
if it is of concern - i read that it calculates the
bitrate after generating a project file with cce, so
how could he be able to tell wrong bitrate before that.
I want to encode a movie with 74-75 minutes, on two cds.
Also I the standard max and max average bitrate settings
(so i wonder anyway about that damn error it it uses the
settings in the end anway).
Could you explain?
Also in some prvious encodings I saw that the title picture
was displayed WHILE the movie already began to play, thus
the first two seconds of video were replaced with the title
while the sound already played.
Why the hell is this? Can i circumvent it? I do expect that
error to be gone when I deactivate any logos.

SVCD = 2730 kbps MAX bitrate. The default in D2S is 2530 MAX.
Your movie 75 min for 2CD = over 2900 kbps.
You see the bitrate "too high". Make 1 cd.
Can i circumvent it?
Don't make the title picture.;)

Do you mean the warning of dvd2svcd that the total max bitrate is above the SVCD - specifications (2756 kb / sec)?
If yes, this isnīt an error and the question could have been answered by reading the guides.
If you use the default bitrate settings (2530 kb / sec max for video) you have 226 kb / sec left to be in specification. So if you need more bitrate (for example 2 audio - streams) dvd2svcd will give you a warning. Very useful, because some players donīt like xSVCDs. In the bitrate - tab you also can turn off this warning.
Besides: changing the number of CDs or the CD size doesnīt effect the calculation for this warning (only the max bitrate for video + the audio bitrate(s)).

winxi is right if you set your bitrate too high you will get that error. On the bitrate tab it says Max, Min and Max avg. If you take the max and the total bit rate of your audio that has to equal about 2756. If it doesnt you will get that error.

Abond I just want to clarify a little error in your statement.
You said:
SVCD = 2730 kbps MAX bitrate. The default in D2S is 2530 MAX.
First part seems close enough, but the second part is in error.
The 2530 that you speak of is the video only bitrate. You must add the audio bitrate to this to get the final bitrate. So if you choose 224 you would get 2530 + 224 or 2754.
Hironimo that is not an error, but a warning. It is there to let you know your bitrate is out of the SVCD spec.
Leave the Max bitrate at 2530. What DVD2SVCD is calculating is the Avg bitrate to be used based on the number of cd's and the length of the movie. You never want the average to get closer then 120Kbit to the Max because of potential issues with CCE. That is why there is also a Max avg section this and the MAX bitrate sections are limiters. There function is to make sure the bitrates stay within the levels you tell them, which hopefully will be what your player can play. You may have enough room to go very high, but if your player won't play them whats the point.
Until you get the hang of it leave all the settings at default on the bitrate tab, except for the size and number of cd's. Unless your DVD player cannot handle standard SVCD bitrates then you will need to lower them.
Make sure to read the Q+A, Quick guide and FAQ along with the guide at doom9.net. Most of this is explained there.

First part seems close enough, but the second part is in error. The 2530 that you speak of is the video only bitrate. You must add the audio bitrate to this to get the final bitrate. So if you choose 224 you would get 2530 + 224 or 2754.
In fact I remember only the first two digits - 27xx :p .
2530 for the video- yes, I tried to calculate only 75 min video, Hironimo did not say anything about audio.
Therefore 2900 kbps is also not correct - it doesn't fill 2CD, I tried to skip some place for audio;) .
Greetings.
