DirecShowSource > unrecognized error

Whenever I use DirectShowSource in an avisynth script, I get the error "unrecognized exception" in the line I use DirectShowSource.... the script itself works on another pc, just on my machine not. The "AviSource" command works just fine on my pc, but I need to use the DirectShowSource one because I want to get Microsoft DV format working in Nandub (got a DV camcorder source). Both machines are running win2k with sp2.

What I already did to get it working:
- tried different Avisynth versions, 1.06 and 2.05
- reinstalled DirectX 8.1
- tried avi-formats other than MS DV, no use. Working with AviSource command, not working with DirectShowSource

Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

I noticed something interesting: When I tested my directshowsource script with another machine running windows98 I got the same error. When I looked what graphedit showed when opening an avisynth script, I got the following:

Avisynth video#1 -> Color Space Converter -> Video Renderer

..on both machines where its not working and

Avisynth video#1 -> AVI Decompressor -> Video Renderer

on the machine where its working.

Would be nice if anyone whos avisynth is getting directshowsource done alright check if its using Color Space Converter or Avi Decompressor? Would be quite nice, maybe it will help in finding the problem.

Its a quite simple, although I can't explain it - VobSub is the one to blame! When the VobSub DS Filter is installed this error occurs, no difference using 2.15 or 2.18...

Don't know what makes this happen, as I can't see how these two should be connected, but at least I know now why this problem occured.

What I'm really curious about now is if AviSynth or VobSub is the one that generates the problem...

I have exactly the same problem and unistalling VobSub makes "DirectShowSource" working.

Unfortunately for me, I need both "DirectShowSource" and VobSub to work. :( English isn't my native language, so I often use subtitles, even translate them to estonian and russian. Unistalling VobSub every time I need DirectShowSource is a bit unconvenient.

Anybody outh here who could figure out reason of such interference? At least, who to blame - VobSub or Avisynth?

if you didn't replied to this thread, i wouldn't know how to make DirectShowSource working (i couldn't make it work for months !)

PPS : @valja did you tried VobSub 2.20 ? gabest said it has a lot of bugfixes

Yes. I did and just was going to write about.

I uninstalled VobSub 2.18 I had and installed 2.20. All works like a charm now :)

What do you mean by "The "AviSource" command works just fine on my pc"? If you use AviSource it doesn't work in Nandub? Is it a type I DV?

I actually had the same problem a few days ago. It was very frustrating. But yesterday I reinstalled my OS (different reason) and after that it worked (used vobsub 2.20 instead of 2.18 I think).

Nice to know what actually caused it.
