The new display while encoding is good ...

Trial limitations:
- Logo
- 30 days functional
- only simple filtering :(
- no ecl

JUST GOT USE TO 2.64,...dunno what half these settings mean in this release, they have changed it all around...oh well here we go again from scratch...GRRRRRR:devil:

If anyone finds a new manual (.pdf) for the new features, please post a link.

I'm in the middle of encoding with 2.5 now, so I can't test out the new version for a couple of hours, but I'm very interested to see if it works. The 2.66 beta kept crashing on my system.

But before I even use it I don't like all the restrictions on this beta. I can understand the time limit and logo, but both the reduction of funcitonality and the inability to save .ecl files really hurt my ablity to fully evaluate the product.

@wmansir: as usual, download, install, go to the directory you installed into and double click on the PDF.. all the new options are explained.
Amongst the interesting thing there's 3:2 pulldown removal aka IVTC capabilities. I wanted to test it, but when I wanted to start the 2nd pass manually nothing happened and CCE froze (or rather, didn't react to my input.. it just sat there looking alive but doing nothing).

It would be nice to read manual ? Lots of new filters .

Doom's link was to the Japanese page of CC which had 2.66 posted. But the same 'downloads' page on the English version of CC's web page shows 2.64 still. Is the software in English or Japanese? 2.5 works fine for me but I would interested in opinions from those who are testing this version - esp. the IVTC and filters that everyone has talked about. Also, how does this handle the field issue in interlaced material - CCE 2.5 always does TFF and requires extra effort and attention when you come across a BFF source (like my DV  ).

Don't understand. Whhich 30 secs ?
If you want to explain detailed to me - feel free to PM me.

Tried it and it's a touch faster than 2.64.01.10 (using avisynth), at least on my machine.

At least ECL support and the other restricted features are included in the code, just blocked. It would be a shame if the demo had been written such that these features couldn't be 'unlocked' because the code wasn't there to be unlocked.

so, when's the unlock tool planned to come? Anything heard? Or is there a way to unlock it yourself?

Ah, questions over questions....

Or do you want the thread closed like the other 2.66 threads ?

you're welcome to find us an mpeg2 encoder that is as good and fast as cce but GPL software. I suppose one or two people here would even switch to Linux if such a software existed.

m3taPT
26th September 2002, 20:48
I already switched to Linux. A long long time ago. Its called "evolution". The only actual use for windows IS, in fact, dvd2svcd and 1 or 2 more programs, nothing else. Oh, and for Internet Explorer on the sites that have blind webmasters doing HTML thats windows-only oriented. Can't forget that.

So, you're telling me you were only of the people who payed $1950 for the CCE SP.... Of course you have been trying the linux GPL tools right? I did. And then i saw Ifoedit, which is a "non-forced $1900 tool", and i even donated. Cause i wasnt forced to.

Lets face it, the only way for the end user to beat a *nix FREE tool (even though atm they're not that good), is get one for windows thats "fixed". Of course we cant say the *craBEEPck* word, cause linux doesnt have many of those, i understand that. But i can still defy 95%.. no, lets make it 98% of the people here who use CCE, to publicly show the receipt from buying it.

It's legal to show legal software purchase receipts, right?

Make a poll.... without that, no point in continuing this thread.

PS - Funny and ironic, my CCE is legal, was a gift from a company i worked for.

@m3taPT

Do we have to discuss these things ever and ever again ... :(

Simply follow the rules within your postings.
Noone has to explain where his version comes from. Some do only tests with original demo versions ... no more.

Some bought the program, some work with it because their company bought the program and most use a cracked version.
But is that really the question ? :(

If I'm 20 years old and drive a mercedes am I a thief ?
Or could it be that it's my fathers car ... or any companies car or friends car.
Do I need to have a buying contract with me all the time.

Most of us do live in countries where you are not guilty until the opposite is for sure. That is one of our most valuable principle - after freedom.

I'm going to stop posting here about cce in future because it leads to this discussion in 2 out of 4 topics

btw I once worked with a legal cce version but nowadays I only work with a cracked one - read their bug history and their update prices ...

To get back on topic....

I've been very busy and haven't had time to fully check out the new features. But I like what I have seen, especially the new progress window. So, what let's hear some opinions. How is the new IVTC feature? Has anyone noticed a difference in speed/quality/stability?

I fell in the error of beta testing Microsofts XP .NET Server RC1, but after exchanging 3 emails with MS, i quit the task, there's some things i can't endure. Specially people at MS, with IQ smaller than shoe size.

@Arky, I just opened up the standard template, changed it a bit (including the title) and pressed "add".

In regards to the "fix", lack of ECL support is okay (on account of templates feature), but the encoded video is all blocky when there's movement...I would have thought basic testing would reveal that...hopefully SSG will fix it quickly :)

So I think, that it might be sufficient to change those settings only in the template.

With the Program 'Ressource Hacker' it also might be possible to complete those uncomplete dialogs, but as mentioned above, this might be unnecessary.

Is there someone who could test it ?

The v0.3.9 of the unspeakable tool makes a complete registry initialisation, so it might be the solution, but I haven't testet it.

I didn't realise there was a new one, found it after a Bit (well a lot) of effort.

It seems that the screwed output with SSG only occurs if the advanced filtering is used. Fortunately this same problem does not exist when the Tsunami patcher is used. So thank you for the tip ;)

I know how you feel - I couldn't see the grey bits in CCE advanced settings after reading robshot's guide (turns out it was a monitor brightness issue :p).

Anyway this is from memory:

Go to template->standard and the template should open for editing (if it doesn't go go to template->standard a second time and it will, this is because doing this once just selects the template for use if it isn't already selected).

In the template box change settings to how you want them (multipass VBR etc). Then change title from "standard" to something else (e.g. custom).

Then down the bottom press the "add button"

Now you should be able to open the template and click the "quality" button.

You can't access the advanced features by right clicking on a source file and hitting edit though, you must use your template.

Also it seems as though if you undertake any right-click->editing (e.g. to add chapters), CCE will encode using the simple setting that's specified in the right->click edit box :(

So that means you must make sure the right template is selected (and configured with right bitrate etc), load your source and hit encode.

Arky
30th September 2002, 02:22
Hmmm... thanks for your help, Matthew, I will try that when I get back onto my desktop (I'm typing this on my old PII laptop, and we all know that the CCE-SP installer laughs in the face of anything less than a P3! )

It does sound, though, that what one gains, using the above method, is outweighed by what one loses! :( Sometimes I like to be able to make 2-pass VBR encodes, and in this instance, it sounds like I will have a lot of difficulty *directly* (i.e. conventionally) using the results of the "set bitrate" graph, without causing myself a whole load of hassle trying to also use the advanced feature settings.

I hope a more satisfactory solution presents itself in the fullness of time, thanks to the efforts of people more skilled at coding than I.

BTW, mb1 has had a great deal of time to test 2.66 *BETA*, and has spoken of it having several bugs. I am curious as to whether, for the time being at least, 2.66 BETA might be a better option to use than 2.66 final? Just exactly what bugs does BETA have, that FINAL does not?

Thanks again for your assistance, Matthew, and thanks also to mb1 & co for your helpfulness.

Arky ;o)

I don't do the tweaking of bitrate curve thing but I see what you mean.

At least you can see what the settings are for the inbuilt templates, i.e. you can use the slider for "natural picture", etc and image quality priority etc are displayed. This allows you to select an inbuilt template that best suit your project, rather than having to rely on CCE's vague descriptions like "easy" and "hard".

It would be nice if an updated patch could be made in order to enable advanced filters, or alternatively an app that allows you to specify your settings, then it patches the executable to update the inbuilt templates according. We can only wait in hope :)

Well I ran a test and fortunately it seems I was wrong :)

Set inbuilt template to 1 pass VBR with "natural", "easy" filter settings. Then loaded avs and set chapters. After encoding I switched to 2 pass mode and edited the vaf in one point (increased bitrate over 40 sec period). Then I hit encode in the main window (not edit window, dunno if it would make a difference).

I repeated the process exactly except set the filter settings in the template in advanced mode (everything on and up top so it's as different as possible from the other encode).

The vafs when viewed in CCE look very different.

The mpvs created along with the vaf are of massively different sizes, so they are different.

The mpv creates after the 2 passes are almost the same size, but the curves are extremely different in bitrate viewer.

So that's good news, I think ;)

As the beta version is 500 Mb bigger than the trial version and saves ecl files I wonder whether this is a case of the beta not being fully optimised when compiled or if the trial is crippleware?

Has anybody identified the limitations / bugs fixes between the beta and trial and if there is any reason, with the exception of the pulldown feature, to use anything other than 2.5?

wmansir
30th September 2002, 12:06
Has anyone tried the new pulldown detection on Hybrid material? If it works the way I think it does, it may be the best solution (IVTCing the FILM and leaving the Video alone). I'm going to start working on the Larry Sanders show DVD soon, so I'll know myself, but I would like to know if I'm correct in my thinking.

wes

Edit: has anyone gotten pulldown detection to work with multi-pass? I keep getting an error about "the pulldown does not match the previous pass" after the .vaf creation, just as the first real pass starts. I tried it with a couple of simple .avs scripts and one huffyuv .avi. I'll have to experiment more later.

m3taPT, you seem to be hell-bent on sarcasm and de-constructive remarks, some of them totally irrelevant (Micro$oft tech support???), to boot, judging by your numerous posts in this thread. I am in no way saying that you are not entitled to your opinions, and I am not implying that your remarks deserve censorship - we are a very egalitarian community here on Doom9, and, let's face it, it would have been very easy for anyone of the mod's, myself included, to delete your posts if we had seen fit to.

Nevertheless, as a responsible mod', I feel compelled to draw your attention to the fact that Doom9 members, in return for their liberal and laidback approach, expect their fellow members to be constructive and helpful - otherwise there is little point in posting, and, in the broader sense, there is very little point in having the forum community at all.. We are not here to flame each other.

With regard to your sarcasm on the CCE-SP audio-encoding issue, had you read around the forum, as you claim to have done, then you would have learned that many users have experienced audio-encoding issues with CCE-SP which have transpired to be due to the patches employed. Of course, as one of the forunate few who are lucky enough to own a CCE-SP dongle, you will not have experience this problem. This does not mean that other members are "lazy". We have an enormous amount of collective knowledge on the topic of video, in this community, and you will find members who are very willing to share this with you, at considerable time and effort to themselves, so please think twice before biting the hand that you may one day wish to feed you.

I hope you will read the above in the spirit in which it was intended. I very much welcome your input here on this board, just so long as it is constructive rather than destructive.

No ECL support though, which makes adding chapter points, for example, a little more tricky.

Plus one has to use templates to access advanced filters, although only the anal retentive would probably have a problem with that.

I've found that there is no significant difference between the beta and the trial with regards to performance although there may be bugs that I haven't come across. Certainly on one-pass or multiple passes on the video alone (I've never used any audio option as I'm only concerned with redoing dvds to dvd-rs) they given nearly exactly the same file size and the timings are the same, although both are about 10 to 20% slower than 2.50. Tsunami's patcher works on the beta and that doesn't have the limitations of the ecl or the filters.

I found both the beta version and the patcher through google searches although it did take me a couple of hours of messing about. Look to Spain for the beta and cce-patcher for the Tsunami site.
