K, hopefully the subject is more clearer now.. Anyways, I guess i figured out a few things, but was wondering if its possible to put the whole (any) movie onto just 1 cd? I know a few people that have done it, but not sure with what software, and the quility was still perfect. It would help me out a lot, since it would save me twice as much cd-rs. :D I searched this forum without any luck on this subject.

The answer is simple: The more CD's the better the quality. I won't recommend a full movie on one CD.

Hi, you are in the wrong section. For keeping 'perfect' quality as you mention, then you need to look in the Divx and Xvid section of this forum for doing ONE CD encodes. If you are looking for SVCD or VCD flexability for standalone DVD player then you CAN stay here but don't expect 'perfect' on ONE CD. :) Unless the movie is 60min or less :)

The subject is clearer, but you are still breaking rule 9.
Only one ? is needed. Just write as you would on paper here.
We try and keep this forum more professional then most others and appearance is one part of that.
Anyway, a SVCD on 1 cd will look aweful. A VCD on 1 cd will look better, but still not very good. Keep in mind that about 60 minutes is the most anyone seems to consider as decent quality for a SVCD on 1 cd. Even then most limit it to 40 minutes or less.
If you want to try it I definately suggest a VCD(over SVCD) since the bits can be used on a smaller image size giving a better picture using the same amount of bits.
If you plan to only use it on a computer I would suggest looking into Divx as the others have mentioned. It does better with lower bitrates.
Also consider 90 or 99 minute discs. You can get as much as 200 more megabytes on each one giving you some more headroom. The only issue is cost since they are very expensive. I paid $60 for 100 99 minute discs and have hundreds of 80 minute discs I got for basically free after rebates and sales. So I use the 99 minute discs rarely.

I see. Um, to make a vcd, what program do i need? Can i just use dvd2svcd and change settings to "mpeg1" instead of "mpeg2"? dumb question, but im a newbie at eveything i guess.thanx for help guys! :)

All you need to do is load DVD2SVCD (on the Misc. tab) with the vcd-settings.ini template that is in your DVD2SVCD directory, then all the VCD settings will be loaded, but creating a VCD will not solve your 1 CD limitation unless you do a XVCD VBR and limit max avg bitrate. Even doing that you will still not get the quality I think you are expecting on 1 CD.

I definately agree with Holomatrix that the quality will still be rather low, but until you see it for yourself you will never know if you think it's good enough.
One point though. For a VCD, which is mpeg-1, use TMPG instead of CCE as the encoder. It seems to do a better job with mpeg-1 video.
If you have the time, I would try it just to see. Each person has their own idea of what is good and who knows you might just like it.

markrb, so set to "mpeg1" and load VCD setting?

Well, try to search TMPG section or Google for KVCD template for TMPGEnc. They clame to put up to 120 min video in one CD with relatively good quality (I personaly don't believe). AFAIK, you cannot use it with DVD2SVCD, unfortunately. There is a guide (http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/dvdtovcd/ClassicalGuide.html)
to make VCD with TMPGEnc, you should change the classical VCD template with KVCD template. Good luck.

For 120min and even 180min :D on one single CD, go to www.kvcd.net
Here you can grab several TMPGEnc templates that will do the job for you, as well as video samples to check quality and compatibility.
KVCD being a XVCD format (mpeg1 VBR with tuned GOP and quant. matrix), bear in mind that you won't get SVCD nice features like several soundtrack and removable subtitles... the 2 reasons why I personnaly love this format and adore DVD2SVCD that makes my life so easy doing SVCDs
Note that KVCD might not work on your DVD Player too.
Anyway if you are ready to learn and experiment , I strongly encourage you to take a look at KVCD and read forums out there...
Cheers.

animeal load the vcd.ini first. That should have made it mpeg-1, but if it didn't just click it over to it.

You should really use CCE for this, especially when trying to put larger films into smaller files, you'd really notice the quality improve.

k, cool. I guess I will give up on 1 Cd movie thing. I hoped to save a few cdrs and space in my CD WALLET, but guess that wont be happening. I came up with 1 CD idea, becaue i know a guy who had Matrix on 1 cd, and quility was AWESOME! Anyways, RIGHT now, im trying Lord of The Rings, got about few hours left to convert. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything works ok, and it will be just on 2 cds. Got a quick question, in bitrate it has like 0-30 min and than it gives u option to change how many cds u want (which i dont get, cause never read FAQ :D plus, I figured that if I just put 1, that no matter if the movie is 60 min or 120 min, it would make it on just one CD, but it didnt work that way. So not sure what that 1 means anyways. Cause I had a Happy Gilmore movie, that was only 90 min, changed that to 1 and 740 and it still took 2 cds. But my main question (im pretty sure ur lost by now and already started reading other posts  ) what is that on the bottom, MIN and MAX? my min is 300 and max is..... cant remember cause Im on different computer right now and cant access the other one cause monitor broke last night! :( All it does is turn on, turn off (within like millisecond). So the light goes, green, yellow, green, yello, green, yellow (REALLY fast)! Im soooo mad! Anyways, ignore please the last part, sorry, got off track!

If you want awesome "quility" with 1 CD go make divx.
Did you get anything at all?
The MIN and MAX there are the measure of your indolence...
Read the FAQ, read the guides, that's the answer of your quick question.

Than winXP saId it restarted because of some error! I am sooo mad! I wont encode anything until i finish building my AMD XP 1800 system! Will add 512 ddr ram, 120gb of hdd, Cant wait! Now all i need to do is find some gold at the end of the rainbow, cause i dont really have that much money! :D Anyone willing to donate? JUST KIDDING!!

JUST KIDDING!! Download WinXP SP1, it has been shown to have numerous bug fixes, giving DVD2SVCD users much better results, and many fewer errors. My overly-slow 56k has prevented me from making the 133mb download, so I can't give personal results. Cable will be here in less than a month though, and I'm first on their list to order it when it arrives! :D *can't wait* ;)

UltimateDBZ if you do the as needed windows update install you will usually download much less. For me it was only about 55Mb's. Still days at 56k. You can't slipstream then, but it does work.
