black borders

hi everybody i'm trying to rip high crimes with dvd2svced and make a vcd and i end up with two black borders on top and bottom and i look everywhere in this forum and i cannot find and answer for my vcd because everythig is related to svcd can someone help me please.:mad:

You probably have a widescreen DVD, if not(doubtful), simply select 4:3 instead of 16:9

i'd try to convert my file 4:3 with no border and on my dvd i've got 3 option and i'd try all of them and i've got the same borders on top and bottom. the 3 options are 4:3 pan&scan 4:3 letter box and 16:9.
i think it's when i convert, the movie is a wide screen movie how can i convert the movie to have it 4:3.

In this case it's not easy at all to get rid of the black borders.
They are suppose to be there to give you the correct aspect ratio.

You can get rid of them, but it's not very easy and you will loose about 1/3 of the video. You must crop the sides off to make it the right aspect ratio. This has the affect of zooming into the middle of the image.
This will only work if the video is anamorphic. In other words the DVD player adds the black bars itself. If the video has the black bars encoded into the video then it is even harder.

To find out if it's anamorphic or not simply play the original DVD in PowerDVD or WinDVD if you watch it not in fullscreen mode and you don't see the black bars then it's anamorphic.

Do a search as I know how to do the cropping has been covered before.

Personally I would never do this since this is the way the video is suppose to be.

yes i still do want to have the borders remove, i'm searching right now and i cannot find anything that talks about vcd with dvd2svcd i'd try to go to the faq but all they talk again is about svcd does anyone know where i can get the information i need or anybody knows what to do to get these black border out of there.

well, you've got a few(all horrible) options:

1. crop the movie(top, bottom, left and right) til you have no more black borders and it is vcd size.
2. crop(top and bottom) then resize the movie so it's stretched(long, tall, skinny faces) to vcd res.
3. resize, then crop until you have correct vcd res.

search for "crop", it doesn't matter if you're looking at svcd or vcd, just adjust the values to suit your purpose(vcd in this case).

Do you want to remove the borders because you feel it will save space on the cd, and thus use the extra space for the film (so its higher quality)? :confused:

I tried to do this when i first downloaded DVD2SVCD... Then i found out that if i chose to encode a widescreen film without borders it stretched the film to fill the screen! The borders were there (in this instance) to keep the shape of the picture correct.

But i'm betting this is totally not what you meant! ;)

:rolleyes: at least yes i wanna try to crop at least 1 movie to see if it's worth it or not right now i've got no problem converting 4:3 made movie but i'm a junior at this and this week end when i try to convert high crimes thepicture is good and i have no sound sync but those black bars are a pain at this moment probaly i'm wrong but i wanna see at least one time what it looks like without the black bars and i need some help to where can i get the information ineed to crop this movie because all i can find is numbers for svcd and i don't know nothing about to play with numbers all i'm asking is there somebody can giveme an electronic adress or the right numbers for croping and rezizing an 16:9 to a 4:3 tha will play on my tv with no black borders.

im still having trouble with this...why would you want to destroy the movie quality and also lose some video just to see it fullscreen? if you want to do this, you could probably zoom in on your dvd player

yes i wanna do this but zooming in doesn't work and if i don't like it i still got the files in my computer so can someone help me please.

We have given you all the information we can.
Do a search on cropping since that is what you will have to do.
Other posts here give you the correct formula's, but you will have to adjust for VCD size.
You will have to cut the sides off so the image can be made into 4:3 and cutting/cropping is the only way.

You seem to want someone to tell you the exact formula and it appears nobody here knows it. I would suggest you do the search as stated above and then check out the avisynth forum. Crop is an avisynth function and you just might find what you need there.

This is an advanced subject and not one many people do.

Is this an NTSC or PAL DVD?

I will do some tests to try and figure it out, but not today.

This is assuming you have 60 pixels of black bar on top and bottom, Just download GKnot and load up your particular clip and play around with the cropping and resizing to see the #'s you should use.

Again, this is highly recommended and i'm ashamed to even give you these settings so i'm done with this thread.
