To those who encode anime from avi to vcd...

What ways do you encode the animes from avi into vcd so that the audio doesn't go out of sync when you fast forward and rewind on a standalone dvd player? Here are the ways I've tried:

1. Encode the audio and video from the original avi using tmpgenc. Demux and mux.
2. Convert the audio to wav using virtual dub. Then, convert the video separately using tmpgenc. Convert the wav using tmpgenc and mux the two.
3. Convert the audio to wav using virtual dub. Convert the video and the wav at the same time using tmpgenc. Demux and mux.

Any other programs or methods used are welcome. I know this isn't a problem with my dvd player. My machine plays dvd, dvd rips into svcd, dvd rips into vcd fine. I only have problems with converting animes from avi to vcd. The sound goes off when you fast forward or rewind.

Have to admit it's been a while i've played with this, so i probably don't have the latest versions of the software either.

I assume your converting from divx to vcd?

I have to ask you why do you feel the need to demux and mux? Honestly curious.

The last time i played with mux and demux in Tmpgenc i found that it put my audio and video out of sync, but this was ages ago.

Before i just used tempgenc and tempgenc only to convert my divx avi files to a vcd compatible mpg and i found this worked fine.

Furble, the reason i mux and demux is because i was told it solves sync problems. Even the guides on doom tell you to do so. However, I don't have much luck with it. TMPGenc has problems dealing with mp3 audio, which the avi's use. The vbr mp3's are especially a hassle. TMPGenc won't even encode properly with those. You get a huge file with vbr mp3's. However, there is a solution. Instead of converting to vcd, you can convert to svcd using TMPGenc. That works perfectly. Exceptions are only with vbr mp3's. You can use virtual dub to see whether or not the avi has that kind of audio. And if it does, you can also use virtual dub to make a wav file and use that as the audio source of your encoding. But the vcd problem still bugs me, although, I do have perfect results with svcd from avi files. Guess I'm just stubborn. Any other ideas?? :sly:

Honestly i haven't had a problem with Tempgenc making my audio out of sync. I just converted a buffy divx the other day, but i didn't check to see if it was using vbr mp3.

What anime are you trying to convert? Fansubs? If so tell me what ones your trying to convert, i may possibly have it, and then i could play with it. Either that or you could direct me to a short clip your trying to convert.

What version of Tempgenc are you using?

I'm using TMPGenc 2.52 right now. I've used a couple of the ones before that, also. The first series of fansubbed anime I started to do were both the vandread series. I've also tried Noir and Final Fantasy Unlimited. Now I'm doing Prince of Tennis. And soon after that, I'm going to begin Hikaru no Go. VBR mp3 or not, I would still get that problem if I tried to convert to vcd.

I have also converted Vandread to VCD, i don't think mine went out of sync when i ff or rew, but let me check again and get back to you.

Why don't you try encoding the AVI's audio only to mp2, then encode the video with the source being the AVI, and the audio source being the mp2 ?

To encode an mp2, choose the unlock Tmpeg template, and make it Mpeg 2. Then check 'Audio Only'.

Here's another method I've had success with in the past:

1) Convert the audio to wav using virtual dub.
2) Change the audio source to wav in vdub and point it to the file just saved.
3) Fserve to tmpgenc, no need for demuxing/muxing.

Also, I've had problems in the past with muxing in general with tmpgence, haven't tried in a while though.
