Error writing/reading when encoding avi!

Hi,

I´m getting really mad when trying to convert an avi file to VCD (PAL) format. All of a sudden an error requester pops up and telling me this:

"Read error occourred at adress 0049878F of module TMPGEnc.exe with.."
"Write error occourred at adress 0048714A of module TMPGEnc.exe with."

It happend all the time, _every_ movie I try to convert!
It doesn´t happend on the same frame when trying to convert the same file again... this is silly!!

The computer is a:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 524Mb ram, 64Mb Nvidia card.
Sofrware is:
Windows XP Pro (os), TMPGEncoder 2.58, Divx 5.02 Pro.

The really weird thing is that the same computer has compiled movies perfectly before I reinstalled the OS. same hardware.
I´ve tried different versions of TMPGEncoder and divx.

PLEASE If someone knows the problem, HELP ME..
I´ve got aboute 30gigs of movies that´s lying on the HDDS and needs to be converted and burned!

Forgot to tell that the movies is placed on NTFS partitions and TMPGEncoder tmp directory is set to a NTFS partition too.

I'm having the same problem. I was having no problems until about a month ago. I found a temporary solution by turning off "pipeline" and "pipeline for motion search" on the "Option->Environment Settings->CPU" page. I say "temporary solution" because this doesn't take advantage of my dual CPU PC.

I had problems with v2.55 and Win XP Pro. I did a clean install with v2.58 and Win XP Pro w/ SP1 and I'm still having problems.

I have:
Windows XP Pro w/ SP1
Dual Athlon MP 2000+ w/ Asus MB
512 MB DDR
ATI All-in-wonder Radeon
TMPGenc Plus 2.58

I'm encoding large AVI files captured with Huffyuv codec as well as DVD's ripped with Smartripper and DVD2AVI encoding to SVCD.

Stinks that I built this machine so I could shorten my encoding time and initially cut the time in half. Now I can't take full advantage of dual processors.

Now after turning off the pipelines, I still occasionally get the read/write error. I'm not sure what's going on here, but it's pretty frustrating. I may try turning off different options (MMX, SSE, etc), revert to an older version of TMPGenc or try Windows 2000. God forbid it's a hardware problem, it's all brand new stuff.

Well, I got rid of the dam* problem...
Deleted the TMPGEncoder directory and installed TMPGEncoder Plus (latest version) and there haven´t been a problem since the installation was done.

Try it you too!
The Plus version is increadibly much faster!

Well I finally figured it out on my PC. When enabling dual CPUs w/ pipelines I was either getting the error mentioned above or my PC would just all of the sudden reboot (not shutdown and boot up, just boots up). I had reinstalled the OS and everything twice and was still getting these problems. I then updated all my drivers except the driver for my SB Audigy( Creative says their driver doesn't support WinXP sp1). Still having problems. Decide to upgrade the Audigy driver anyway. Computer boots to the Windows XP black screen and then reboots. It keeps doing this. Hmm. Decide to take out the sound card and enable the onboard audio on the motherboard. Reinstall everything from scratch once again. Voila! No problems. I've been happily encoding for about a week now and everything's going smooth.

So it was the soundcard itself, not a driver problem. Either the card is bad or their is a conflict with something else. I checked IRQs and everything and no conflict there. I'm content with the onboard audio, so it looks like it's all good.

Just following up in case some people are still struggling with this problem.
