dumb noob question

I am using dvd2svcd to create svcd out of my avi files. Some of my movies contain 2 separate avi files so when I encode them using dvd2svcd and cce I would like to merge them together before using dvd2svcd so the bitrate calculations and number of cd images can be minimized. Would it be best to merge the two avi's together before processing them with dvd2svcd. What program should I use

try using the search function...

but to answer your question, it is probably best to merge them first...virtualdub can do this for you. once it's merged you can select exactly how many svcd's you want to produce from the given movie length.

also, since it's a divx (im assuming) make sure the mp3 is not vbr..if it is then you need to change it to cbr

How do you select how many svcds you want to create. I thought the bitrate calculator does this for you with the default settings. Also why do I have to change vbr audio to cbr I used dvd2svcd only once and I thought it took care of everything for me. My avi source file does have vbr audio and I already processed it once using dvd2svcd and everything worked out ok. Are you sure I have to convert it to cbr because I don't want to induce audio synch problems and create more headaches than I need. All I want to do is merge the avi's together so dvd2svcd can make the proper number of image files

I tried a little tool downloaded from doom9 download section called file merger and the output file seems to be the proper size of the two files added together 700mb plus 701mb and output file is 1.4gb but I'm not sure it will work in dvd2svcd because when I load it the movie time only shows that it is the time length of the first avi file of 57 minutes but it should be twice that. I don't know if there is a header or something along with that avi that is stating the movie length. Is there a better merge tool to use.

A quick note first. Try to use a title that actually describes your problem.

Also use the search and look for the term "multiple Avi" in both the basic and advanced forums. This should answer your question.

You really don't need to join the files first.

vbr mp3's are known to cause problems in your encoding...most of the time a2s won't even load it...i guess you got lucky.

oh and i would also recomend merging with vdub only...this is the best way to do so.

and i think you should merge them first, to maximize your space efficiency. you choose the # of cd's in the bitrate tab based on how many minutes the movie is..however if your movie only shows up as 1/2 the movie length you are going to have problems...hence the reason i suggested merging with vdub.
