Hey everybody,

Last night I encoded saving private ryan using xvid (keep up the good work developers!), my target filesize was 2,4gb. The final finalsize was 2,38gb. I want to cut this file in to 3 800mb files. So I started up oggcut and openend the file to begin cutting. Everything went allright, but as soon as I move to another position in the movie nothing happens. I get 100% cpu-load, but after 10 minutes waiting still nothing has happenend. Can Anyone help me with this problem?

Thanx!

(BTW: I hope my english is any good)

_::Guide to cut a future ogm movie::_

The tools available for cut doesn't cut a keyframes (yet)
the best way is:

1: Make the .avi
2: Cut this with nandub.(sometimes you need to re-cut to get the proper size)
3: Cut the audio with Musicutter or something-like
4: Join the video(s) with audio(s)
5: Enjoy.

Why not cutting it with oggmux?

rename your file to .avi, load it into oggmux, set the output file name, select your desired split size and hit "mux". You'll have to confirm a message box informing you that you forgot to add a soundtrack, but you can simply ignore it in this case.

Koepi

Ah, and OGM/OGG has nothing to do with XviD.
Please re-read the forum rules to find out how to post here, thanks.

(moving thread to new a/v formats).

Well you can also try OGMCutter ;)

the prob seems to be a large than 2gig bug.

realy for saving private ryan you should be keeping the ac3 stream.
so just make an .avi with a decent interleave, 128/128 is acceptable usualy.
ogm just isnt worth the hassle for more than 2 cds.
im sure all will be good eventualy.
until then just use ogm for 1 and 2 cd rips and realy only if audio is ogg aswell.

just my opinion, but i think its a reasonable one.

The 2GB bug is a known issue with OggCut.
AFAIK there is no such problem with OggMux nor OGMCutter.

@ Koepi: sorry for posting in the wrong thread.
I thought oggmux wasn't keyframe-accurate (or what do you call it?)?

@ Kyo: Thanx for the advice, this does work.

To everybody else, thanx for your replies.
But my problem is now solved. Thanx a lot everybody.

yeah well i do use oggmux to cut, but not for keepers.
i do a standard 1400mb mux.
then a split at 700mb to find the time i need to split using oggcut.
so that way i dont get a stall frame.

but im not too worried. i cant see myself using ogg audio in a greater then 2cd rip. thus making ogm less apealing to me.

only found it a problem when i was going Platoon, wanted to use the directors comments aswell. so ac3 + ogg. and wanted excelent quality hi res movie. so went for 3cds.

but i just had to compromise and use ac3 + ac3 in avi.

but i presume oggmux will be keyframe accurate soon, not sure why it is searching for keyframes now when i split.

oh just remebered. oggmux doesnt work for 2gig files either.

i remeber the 2nd and 3rd platoon 700mb splits didnt work. just crashed all the players i tried and under 98se, 2k adv serv sp3 and xp pro sp1.

so im not sure it is just an oggcut prob.

im unable to create a .ogm greater than 2gig that will play.

just thought i would let you know, not many people go over 2cds but i usualy go overboard once i decide to go over 1cd.
