what's your PBC-Info? / XML-Files?

How did you author your disc? Most version of Nero are known to produce discs which can't be ffw'ed on most players and/or won't permit you to jump to a specified timepoint. Try using vcdeasy instead.

You don't. Create the bin files with VCDEasy, install Daemon Tools and put the created bin file in the DT virtual CD drive. Then just do a normal 1:1 copy of the image with Nero (select the virtual drive as the source and your CD writer as the destination).

You do :) ... try the burning function included with vcdeasy. Visit vcdeasy.org for instructions on how to set it up properly. If it works for you (functional ASPI required), it the most straightforward solution.
For your dysfunctional discs, did you use Nero? If so, which version?

Well, A17, I really don't catch what you want to know. If you want to know why the SVCD burned with Nero don't work properly, you should make a search with "Nero + SVCD" in this forum. There is a thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=29485&highlight=Nero+SVCD) which provide a link where you can read about. If you want to solve your problems, Boulder and smiller667 gave you very valuable advices. Probably you just don't want to accept the fact that the VCD with Nero works, but SVCD doesn't. Then stick to VCD.
Greetings.

There is no button sauch as "TimeSearch" on the dvd remote control. There are only buttons like "fast forwards" / "fast rewind(backwards)" / "jump(skip) to next tracks" / "jump(skip) to prev. tracks". Or even the arrow buttons. Since weeks it is not clear, which function(button) you've meaned. Dumm & Daemlich.
So one by one:
1. the arrow buttons have no function for svcds(DVD-menu only)
2. the skip(jump) keys have function only when you have multipol tracks(or 1 track but with chapters) on the cd and correct authored them. The nero v5.5 has no chapters support.
3. the fast forwards/backwards keys work very well on most "good" dvd players when you burn the svcd with nero v5.5.9.0. Maybe you've catched a "poor" dvd player. Check www.vcdhelp.com, dvd-player session to see if you are a lucky dog. The old version of nero had a problem with some player but the new one (after 5.5.7.8) worked better. If a dvd player is a "good" one or "poor" one, it depens on its compatibility, not its price.

@A17: as Abond said, try some other ways of burning your SVCD - vcdeasy (cdrdao), CDRWin or a mehod using the daemon tools. Allegedly, the latest versions of Nero don't have this problem anymore, but I haven't tried.
@htc: Gee, what a clever guy you are ... still, most VCD, SVCD and DVD players happen to have a button labelled (in my cases) "T/C search", "Goto", "Time" or "Time search" ... these buttons all allow for a direct jump to a time you enter. Maybe your next player will have such a button as well :).

VCDeasy. I've tried to burn my SVCD's with this program, and it won't F*&Y*(&ing burn. It seem to be alittle too complicated.

I'm pretty sure this is just a function of each individual dvd player. Not all functions supported for dvd will be supported for svcd or vcd, it just depends on what the manufacturers decided to implement. On my dvd player the goto function does not work for vcds or svcds. Those same disks played on my friend's dvd player do support the goto function. It's just like autoplay, some dvd players will autoplay a vcd or svcd just like a dvd, most don't. But it has nothing to do with how your disk is authored.

@smiller
My dvd player(RC) DO have the button labeled "GoTo", like the most dvd players. The label "Time search" I've never seen, but sure, I cann't exclude/prohibit some stupid manufacturer labeled their RC so, just like your manufacturer. "GoTo" is the best description of the function. "Time search" is not a reasonable description(due to lack of clarity). When they labeled it as "Time seek", there is more clarity and thus a reasonable description.
Not only your manufacturer has stupid labeled your RC, you have also given A17 stupid advice. See the reason blow.
@all
The "GoTo"-button has function on vcd/svcd only when your vcd/svcd was authored without PBC-Session in xml or the PBC control was disabled while playback. At least it is ture for most dvd players. So sit down for your dvd player and make test of it: insert a vcd/svcd and press play, then "GoTo", if nothing happens, press the "PBC". Be sure you see the message "PBC OFF" or "PBC Disabled" on the OSD of your TV(on some player you need to press "PBC" twice). Then press "GoTo" and you will be allowed to enter a time code in form of hh:mm:ss. You will be able to access the whole disk regardless the tracks. Don't forget to press "PBC" again after expreiment to re-enable the PBC-feathers(menu, chatpters, navigation etc.).
Important: the dvd player only do a time code -> LBA sectors tranfer regardless the bitrate of mpg/dat file. So if you have a standard CBR vcd/svcd it is ok(the player will goto the possion you want). But if your vcd/svcd is VBR or has a diff. bitrate as 1150+224kbps(vcd)/2550+192kbps(svcd), the player will jump to the sector where the standard constant bitrate was expected. For example, when your vcd/svcd has a bitrate 50% of standard, the player will goto the twice of time as you entered. 1:00:00 will be than 2:00:00.(but the displayed time on the player LED-display will be still 1:00:00 - the the time for standard bitrate)
Important2: the maximal time value could be accepted by player depends on how many sectors your mpg/dat file actually occupy. For 80min CD-Rs is 1:20:00 for VCD and 40:00 for SVCD (roughly, overburned SVCD maybe more than 41:00, VCD -> 1:23:00).
Why the "GoTo"-Function of a dvd player works on some (S)VCDs but others not?
Well, not actually so. Some old authoring/burning software(for example, the very old nero or vcdeasy) builded the (S)VCD without any PBC information. These CDs will make the "GoTo" fuction of a player enabled natively. The other (S)VCDs have a PBC session(sometimes "accidentlly" added by burning software, though it contains nothing useful) and the PBC must be disabled before press "GoTo".
Generally to say, when a dvd player supports GoTo on VCD and it plays SVCD too, it supports also GoTo on SVCD.
Why my player still does not support "GoTo" on (S)VCD after the PBC disabled?
What a pitch! You have the luck to catch a really "poor" player.

Is the SVCD encoded with TMPGEnc by any chance? If I encode and multiplex SVCD with TMPGEnc, time search doesn't work. If I Encode the video and audio separately with TMPGEnc (or any other encoder) and multiplex as SVCD with bbMpeg, time search works fine.
This has have something to do with TMPGEnc producing SVCD's according to the chinese specs, not the Philips SVCD specs.

TMPGEnc is prgrammed in Japan. Not in China. But the "GoTo" button works file on most japanese/chinese dvd player, such as Poineer/Mustek.

SVCD bins = bin/cue images of an SVCD created with vcdimager or some of it's GUIs (VCDEasy, TSCV etc.).
I believe most of the bin/cue images around are created with DVD2SVCD, which also uses bbmpeg for multiplexing. Most mpgs are created and multiplexed with TMPGEnc.
To get GOTO working:
1) Open TMPGEnc and goto "Mpeg tools". Select Simple demultiplex and demultiplex your mpg. Now you've got separate aurio (.mp2) and video streams (.m2v)
2) Multiplex the steams with bbmpeg (check the SVCD box)
Now you can burn the remultiplexed mpg with Nero and Goto works. Additionally, you can create an SVCD bin/cue image with for example VCDEasy and create SVCD chapters onto your disc.

A17,
Have you ever tried just pressing stop before pressing your goto button? My player will not jump to the time entered if the movie has started playing, but if I press stop then goto (or in my player's case the button is called "A time"...go figure) it works.

@RoopeT
you've repeat that statements twice in this thread. The problem is that these are wrong in very most cases. Please read my long contribution at the middle/end of 1st page of THIS thread. You've also posted the same thing more and more in this forum after my posts. In which I've discussed it in detail and given also anwer of FAQs. I'm sorry for a few spelling/typing errors in it. But it was understandable.
@Toots
When you press "stop", the "PBC" function is also disabled(while nothing is being playes back, you see nothing on TV). So you can use the "GoTo" function. I'm not sure if that will works on all player. But when you press "PBC" and see "PBC off" on TV, it will work on very most cases.

@htc10825
Really, turning PBC off doesn't help with my Philips DVD 622 player. I have to multiplex with bbmpeg in order to get Rew/Ff or goto working.
If I have multiplexed an SVCD with TMPGEnc, VCDEasy doesn't allow me to create chapter in it. After remultiplexing with bbmpeg, VCDEasy creates chapters happily.
