View Full Version : Monsters Inc - Invalid pointer operation
Arsenic
18th September 2002, 14:57
I searched and only found 1 guy who had a similar problem and it didn't seem to get resolved. What does this error mean? I snagged a copy of Monsters Inc. yesterday and tried ripping it unsuccessfully twice using the built in (internal routines) ripper in DVD2SVCD. Attached is the log below showing where the error occured. Any thoughts on this or can explain the error meaning? I have read people have mixed results using smartripper ect, so I am seeing what I can gather here first before trying another program to get this working.
Thanks in advance.

WARNING! You seem to be using "Norton Unerase Protection" and
you want to delete the temporary files created by dvd2svcd.
This can cause DVD2SVCD problems. Even though DVD2SVCD deletes
the temporary files, Norton doesn't, therefore DVD2SVCD

I had zero problems ripping monsters inc. with internal routines and it came out just great. Do what the log says. I ripped the widescreen .ifo not the fullscreen one btw.

You can try to use Vstrip and see if you can rip it with that. If that still give you problems then you can use Smartripper. Rip the DVD with Smartripper (using the full backup option), when its done ripping you then rip it again with the internal routines of D2S.

:o I didn't had any problem ripping the movie, my problem is that while encoding the process always stop at 49% with CCE and after 3 crash recovers still stops at 49%.

Do you guys see a problem somewhere????
By the way, same thing happens on 2nd PC but on that one the process stops at 24% always.

I dont see anything wrong with your conversion. Try doing the crash recovery and see what it does if you dont use any subtitles. I know this sounds weird but we are kinda grasping at straws here.

Already did 3 crash recoverys on 2 different machines,
one stops at 24% and the other at the exact same spot 49%.
This is the first time this happens,
but Im whilling to try a few things before I give up.:D

Well here is my status.
I tried unsuccessfully via internal routines, Vstrip and smartipper to rip the VOB files for the widescreen version of Monsters Inc. It kept going from 4->5 and puking out.
So I tried to take the normal version via the second set of IFO's and successfully ripped it, encoded it, and now am watching it =)
So for anyone having problems with the first set, try the 2nd set, same movie just different look.
Hope that helps, glad I finally got it working.

What version of CCE are you using?
If you are using 2.5 try safe mode.
CCE freezing is an old and unfortunately somewhat common problem.
If you are computer savy slow your memory timings down. Aggressive memory timings are one thing know to cause this, but there are many factors.

:sly: I did the movie without the subtitles and still got the same result. So then something came to my mind, I remember somebody told me a different way to encode the movie.
First I was using BicubicResize and swithced to SimpleResize and istead of doing my Multipass VBR I did a Onepass VBR.
So my movie is ready after only a couple of hours.
In case someone bump into this, Ill post my log:
The best thing is the time to encode.......... Sweet!!!
