View Full Version : ecf for Virtual Dub?

hi,
i would like to know if it is possible to run an ECF file (nandub)
using virtual dub instead?

if it is not possible, is there a script that can change all the nandub settings so it will be exactly like virtual dub
for a 1-PASS encode using the div-x low motion codec?

i encoded the same file on nandub and virtualdub using the same settings, but the nandub file is always around 15% smaller than the virtual dub file. the virtual dub file has better quality when encoded with the same bitrate (of course it is larger).

eg. bitrate = 6000
1 sec keyframe

What you want is not possible.

If the VDub output is better with divX3.11, then you don't configure NanDub properly.

what is the best configuration for a 1-pass encode on nandub?

try this yourself: process a small 30sec vob that has lots of dynamic changes using both virtual dub and nandub

only 1-pass for both nan and virtual dub programs

the virtual dub program always comes out larger and better

(for nandub DRF max is not set to 2 )

---

does anyone know the procedure to compile virtual dub / nandub
using the source?

I usually set

DRF: 2-6
DRF 2-4 for motion over 0
DRF 2-5 for motion over 40
DRF 2-6 for motion over 80

or something like this.

I try to get 700 MB files (if I really want to burn to a CD, such as 2x45min star trek episodes), but always have the option to burn Mode 2 Form 2

EDIT you shouldn't forget to set "antishit" either.

alex,
i used your settings, and i get exactly the same file size as before, which is smaller than the virtual dub file.

a lot of the nandub settings have NO impact on the 1-pass encode since nandub was written primarily for a 2-pass encode

i think virtual dub is superior for a 1-pass encode, but i need the ecf feature so i can control the bitrate

has anyone compiled nandub or virtualdub ?

i am thinking of importing some code from nandub into virtualdub to enable the ecf feature

---

someone please try encoding a 1-pass, 30 sec vob file to confirm
the quality and file size differences between nandub and virtualdub

ups, you're right. Motion-depentend drf settings are only used for 2-pass :(

But overall max quantizer is also used for 1-pass.

What you plan is to add some code from NanDub to VirtualDub in order to get NanDub...virtualdub has no special divx code at all! It only uses the codec. Nothing more.

NanDub was specially designed to get the best out of divX3.11alpha codec. It's VirtualDub upgraded with some extra features for better divx3.11alpha results.

Then try setting the max quantizer to 5 or 4

alex,
if i set the DRF min=2x, max=2x i will increase the file size, but then there will be many frames that are corrupted.

if i set DRF min=2x max=3x, the file size will again be smaller than virtual dub, and the quality will be slightly worse

i have tested many settings on nandub, and none of them give me the same results as virtual dub. i dont need all the features of nandub.
i think virtual dub works just great. all i really want is an exact duplicate of virtual dub with the ECF feature, nothing more

someone please run a short 1-pass comparison test between nandub and virtualdub to confirm this

thanks
