Hauppauge WinTV-Radio installation--->dead SB Audigy Platinum

...Well, so much for the relief a proper Hauppauge TV capture card would bring me over my sucktastic ATI Tv Wonder.


Okay, here goes. I installed my new WinTV card today, installed the Happauge drivers, found I couldn't cap at higher than 320x240 (and also that my sound was no longer working...Audigy seemed to be invisible in Device Manager), and installed Btwincap.

Well, the good news is that the WinTV caps fine at 752x480, with 20% less system overhead than the ATI Tv Wonder (well, before the TV wonder blew a gasket and stopped working entirely).

The bad news is that a $150 audigy platinum card is now a rather bad paperweight. I stripped out all cards from my system except for the Geforce 3 AGP and the audigy PCI, tried rebooting, no effect (still appears as though audigy isn't in a PCI slot, no audio, nothing), tried clearing the NVRAM in the BIOS, no effect. I tried taking out the audigy platinum and installing it in a different computer, which likewise did not detect its presence.

I just sent off an email to Hauppauge tech support. I tell you, a year under the impotent reign of a TV Wonder is looking pretty good right now. It might have committed suicide, but it certainly didn't KAMIKAZE my $150 sound card on its way out.

I'm running Audigy Soundcard and WinTV PCI FM in parallel on my machine as well. The Audigy is in PCI slot 2 and the WinTV in 3. I only can suggest you give yourself a clean start. Put in your Geforce and your Audigy and install a new Windows on a clean partition. If that stuff gets running then install your WinTV and so on. Maybe it's just one of the damn IRQ conflicts that shouldn't happen anymore in the 21st century. Anyway Audigy is quite picky when it comes to that sort of stuff.
I'm running the two together without too much problems apart from the very instable WinTV drivers (with Btwincap everything works fine) but I think that the drivers crashing my system is more related to my VIA KT-266A chipset than to the Audigy. Maybe Hauppauge just isn't willing to support something else than Intel chipsets.

The audigy is completely dead, and is sitting in a box, about to be sent to Creative Labs for RMA and replacement. I tried using that card in every machine I own, tried installing it using every method I could fathom, including booting into a different OS, and it's completely invisible to an OS.

In any event, the deed is done now. I'm running on a backup Live! Value card, which is working because I didn't try to run the internal audio cables into the slots on the Hauppauge PCI card. For audio passthrough, use the external line out cable into your sound card's line in.

i had the same thing happen to me aswell with live 5.1 platinum.

result's where that the card still worked but the live drive fried out.

my live drive has been sitting in a box aswell :-) for 15months waiting to be sent back...you get 2 years and i only have 2 months left to return it.

btw the live drive for audigy/Live! pretty much sux. I use one else where from time to ttim and the only option i every used was the remote :-).

Anyways...when it fried my live drive the card was no longer working at all...or so it seemed. I disconnected the live drive...rebooted..same deal. I then took out the live dirve put it in the box...then before i took out the live card i said fuc it. I cleared cmos and put the card in my PCI mastering slot and it worked.

don't know wtf happened but all i know i had to clear CMOS and change the pci slot to get it back...still though...the live drive sits in the box and probably will forever more.
