I had a strange idea.Maybe I am wrong or maybe other people are already using it.I did a test encoding to 16:9 a movie that was originaly at 4:3.The encoding of course was much faster and the movie more compressible of course. Then I tried to play it with zoom player setting the aspect ratio to anamorphic and there it was:my test clip playing corretly. The same can be acheived setting ratio with ffdshow. The result? having a more compressible movie and encoded at faster speed, than if it was set at 4:3.
I am a doing something wrong? It was only a test remember.Anybody else already tried this?Sounds like a good cheat to me

It is better compressible and faster, because you have a lower vertical resolution. It is a good solution for 4:3 movies if you don't bother that you have a lower vertical resolution, and that you can view this movie with the correct aspect ratio only in ZoomPlayer.

I'm going the other way, I encode 16:9 movies in 4:3, because I have a TV with 4:3 - 16:9 switch, and then I have the advantage of a better vertical resolution of the 16:9 movie, and if I watch it on the monitor, I can also change the aspect ratio in Zoom Player.

yes,I know why the encoding is much faster and why is more compressible .I only wonder if this is ok,or I am losing something.Could it be a way for more compressible 4:3 movies?

lower resolution means that you are loosing details. at full screen the pictire will be less sharp, more blurry.

thank you the wef. That makes things clear.Although the resolution of 4:3 is 704x288 and 16:9 will be 702x224
