This is not a problem for me but I'm a little surprissed. I capture a Friends episodes from TV at 384x288 with DivX5 1 pass quality based at 100% (for me, my computer and my capture card the best option after try almost all possibilities).
When I open the recorded file with Gspot, it says me a bitrate around 2200kb/s. After I reencode with Vdub 2passes at 1450 kb/s (thinking to put 3 episodes in a CD) only whith B-encoding enable. allways the desired file size is 70Mb less. I open whit Gspot the new encode and find that the bitrate is around 1000-1200 it depends whitch episode. If I reencode again this time whit a 2000 kb/s
b-encoding...i find exactly the same results, if I uncheck the b-encoding, the filesize is the correct one...but the quality is almost the same.
The results are very good and I can put 4 episodes instead 3 :). (I going to do this way all the reencodes ;-) but I want to know, Why the codec do that?, just curiosity.

the same old story: your episodes are already saturated @ 1000 to 1200kbps when you enable bidirectional encoding. You can even put 9000kbps, it won't get any bigger ¬.¬
