View Full Version : VBR Audio Error

hi,
I have some avi files with VBR audio and want to convert the files to CBR so that i can convert to VCD. But Virtual Dub doesn't support VBR as it says that the header would be converted to CBR, causing so many seconds of skew and making the audio out of sync.
I have tried converting the avi files directly to VCD using just TMPGenc but it also gives an error.
Does anyone know of a program that will convert avi files with VBR audio to VCD?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Both the video and audio must be transcoded to mpeg-1 and mpeg-1 layer 2, respectively, in any case. And the video for VCD is CBR, too.
Use DVD2SVCD. I don't have it installed, so this is from memory:
From the Options tab, load the VCD .ini file, set your input type to .avi, and make sure the output file type is mpeg-1. Set your video encoding to 1-pass CBR. Select your .avi input file, press GO.

sorry, i have misled you.
I wish to convert the files to KVCD. This enables mpeg-1 files lomger than 70 min to fit on one CD. The templates for these are in TMPGenc and i wish to use this programto convert to KVCD.
I just want to direct stream the Video and reconvert the audio to CBR instead of VBR.

hi,
try to open your avi file with nandub instead of virtualdub
then use direct stream copy as usual

Hi
I downloaded and tried Nandub and at least it opened the file. But it will not allow me to save the file with any type of audio. It goes through the motions but i end up with video only.
I looked at the file information in zoomplayer to see if the original avi was actually MP3 and is reported to be MP3 VBR.
I used Nandub as follows:
Video = Direct stream copy
Audio = Full processing mode, MP3 Lame 129Kbps
Save the avi and it goes through the motions but no audio is saved only video.
Am i doing something wrong?

Hi-
If you're trying to get the audio out of the .avi so you can convert it to something else, then open the .avi in Nandub, and then go File-Save WAV. Afterwards rename the extension to .mp3. Then take that MP3 and convert it to whatever you want using HeadAC3he or BeSweet.

No I'm not trying to get the audio out of the avi. What i'm trying to do is convert the Avi file to KVCD but the avi file has VBR audio. This causes a problem in that TMPGenc will not convert it. So i thought i could convert the audio using Virtual Dub but it doesn't support VBR audio. Soi tried Nandub as suggested but it doesn't save the audio within the file, it just saves the video.
I might try saving the wav and then putting back into the avi file as cbr audio.

Hi-
I might try saving the wav and then putting back into the avi file as cbr audio.
That's why I mentioned it. You didn't seem to be having any luck creating CBR MP3 Audio while it was still part of the video. If it's any consolation, I tried it also without luck. But I then stripped the audio out and it converted quickly and easily (using HeadAC3he). Then just mux it back in.
Edit: By the way-have you seen Doom9's guide on the Subject? (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2svcd.htm)
