What crap? I have never used Gnot, so I never tested new release (from MAIA MPEG4, DivX pack)with it.

Three months ago, I had the same problem like you with DivX3.11alpha,
I was using Nandub v1.0 RC2 for encoding, and in the end received avi
file, which had few second with the same awful picture in the beginning of the movie (bad frames appeared around 120 seconds in my avi). So, if you encode the movie again with the same setting with DivX3.11alpha, I am sure that you will have the same problem, I think the reason for the problem isn't in the new DivX, because I had the problem with DivX3.11a, the problem is in Nandub, because I solved it changing settings only in Nandub: the problem appeares, when "Curve Compression" (in Nandub: Video->SBC Options->Bitrate Curve->Curve Compression) is set too high, so to solve the problem: put lower value for "Curve Compression".
More details: I was using symentric curve compression and 280 for crosspoint and after first pass I pressed "Calc..." button to let Nandub calc the curve compression, the calculated number was small so I put almost two times bigger value and the problem appeared. From then I use only lower values than those received by "Calc..." button or equal (in some cases only few percents bigger) with no problems(for both Divx3.11a and new DivX from my MAIA MPEG4, DivX pack). As I said I am not familiar with Gnot, but I think it uses Nandub for encoding, so words above, I hope, can help you.
