I have no problem burning and making backups of my DVD Movies.
What I am having problems with is using DVD -RW as a Data disk for backups of my HD.
I can get the files on the DVD-RW fine.. burn etc.. but the disc will not work in any other DVD player besides the Pioneer A04 that i burnt them on.
Im using Nero 5.5.9.9.
Am i being dumb on thinking DVD data is just like regular old CDR CDRW ?

I've found similar things on my computers. For me, it depends on the age of the DVD-ROM drive. I have a 4x Acer DVD-ROM in one computer, and it won't read any DVD-RW's at all. It will read some DVD-R's (PrimeDisc, Verbatum). I have another newer DVD-ROM that will read almost anything.
Does the drive DVD-Rs?

What Im working with is a Pioneer A04 (burner) and a just recently bought Samsung 16X dvd player. both in the same computer. I can make backups of my DVD Movies and they will play in both players.. Its just straight Data files that wont work on the -RW in the Samsung. It actually acts like there isnt even a CD in the drive when i put it in there.. Im closing the session so no more files can be added. So it should be a done deal.. but it will only acess through the Pioneer A04.
Im stumped.. Maybe I will "loose" a DVD -R burn the files to that and see if the Samsung DVD Player will read those.. Your right it could just be massively pickely about the -RW's. And actually I will also burn a movie to a -RW today and see if that works.. I bought 20 of them by accident so I have plenty to get rid of.

You might make sure you have the most resent driver for the older dvd player. Also, I have a dvd player and a dvd recorder and there are these dvd-r and dvd+r sometimes one can't read the other
Just a thought

Try here for a start http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/copy.html I'm sorry but it is quite complicated (until you get the hang of it and then it gets even worse  ). Also have a look here http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-basic.htm I must admit I sometimes wonder if its all worth it - but I love all this just toooooooo much
